Having to wear masks at work again

Had an email today, masks to be worn at work, and two negative tests before you go back to work. In this heat too !

We have some elderly people living by us, their nurses have been wearing masks for a few weeks again now.

I don't think it's a bad thing

That's not the case in my hospital. Mask exempt patients are seen when and wherever in clinics and very little cleaning happens bar a quick clinel round like after any appointment. Inpatients don't wear masks at all unless in transit and want to wear one (which is practically nobody). We only wear a surgical mask when treating covid patients who are coughing all over the place and even they don't ever put one on 🤷‍♀️

no wonder infections spread so freely in hospitals if staff don’t do simple precautions

BirdWatch · 08/09/2022 02:16

We wear masks. We sanitize everything, we have not visited anybody inside since pandamic was announced. We are seniors with health problems including cancer. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to those who are still masking and taking precautions.

Why did you deliberately resurrect this thread?

BirdWatch · 08/09/2022 03:33

My hospital has decided nobody without masks. I was there a few days ago, everyone was masked. The c&p below is current. I am not in the UK.
"Individuals arriving at any of our facilities will also be screened and asked to don a hospital-issued mask if they are not
already wearing a medical grade mask or N95 respirator, as per our current protocol."

Everanewbie · 08/09/2022 09:06

Masks still? Still the evidence for their effectiveness is not there. Lord knows what we'll do if we get a real genuine killer pandemic given our reaction to a mild infection of the upper respiratory tract that we've all been vaccinated against.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 08/09/2022 09:26

I think we'd be on an actual societal collapse there tbh. There are times during the Black Death when law and order essentially broke down in some localities, with lots of massacres of scapegoat groups like Jews and lepers. And they at least had the advantage then of not being able to see what was going on beyond their immediate locality.

It’s not a mild infection of the upper respiratory tract though and there is evidence masks work.

Everanewbie · 09/09/2022 10:11

Well, Omicron certainly isn't a serious infection of the lower respiratory tract, is it?

If masks work so well, how come Scotland had more COVID than England when masks were mandated in Scotland but voluntary in England? Unless a medical professional uses full FFP3 properly the benefits are purely theoretical, like those daft graphics people re-post all the time.

Are all infections only of the respiratory tract 🤨

It enters that way but infects much more than the respiratory system FFS

So what else does it infect? Toes? Liver?

2.5 years later, you for real? Or just goady? Come to a hospital there are plenty of patients still with long term health issues after surviving a ‘mild’ covid infection that didn’t kill then

The circulatory system - have you missed the scientific articles about the heightened risk of heart attacks and strokes post covid regardless of risk factors? And long covid which is caused by microclots?

hardly a fucking cold.

Everanewbie · 12/09/2022 09:42

Well for me it hardly was a fucking cold, as you so eloquently said. Everyone I know has had it. The worst from maybe 300 or so people spent 3 days in bed and was right as rain in a fortnight.

I don’t see scientists telling us that there’s a heightened risk of heart attacks and strokes from a cold.

A cold doesn’t lay you out for three days or take a fortnight to recover from.

A cold doesn’t require multiple vaccinations to protect us.

A mere cold doesn’t break the NHS.

Tell me you know nothing about covid without telling me you know nothing about covid.

Although in fairness the U.K. has done a pretty good job at whitewashing the long term physiological effects of covid even in those with only a mild acute infection. We’re all just supposed to pretend that those don’t exist and that being vaccinated last winter will do a great job at protecting you this winter.

RainStalksMyWashing · 13/09/2022 23:34

'So what else does it infect? Toes? Liver?'

Yes, along with brain, heart, eyes, skin etc. Plenty of research in established journals out there. Some people just refer to the initial symptoms, rather than the documented longer term effects (which can affect even those who were asymptomatic initially).

Mabelstearooms · 14/09/2022 07:31

@Everanewbie yes actually is does affect the liver. And kidney function. And most solid organs inside the body can experience some level of organ damage. Plus neurological conditions, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease & diabetes.

Come on down to my hospital, do a bit of volunteering on the ICU dialysis unit, if you'd like to experience kidney failure in post covid patients. There's plenty of patients there who can educate you.

How lucky that you and the 300 people you know who had covid were fine. How wonderful that you know 300 people so closely to know their entire medical history to be able to make that statement too. You must have lots of friends.

I lost 10 colleagues/friends and a parent to covid. A long with numerous patients. But thank you so much for saying covid isn't a 'real genuine killer pandemic'. What a gem.
