Doctor isolating due to go household contact with covid

I got a phone call last week from my surgery. My GP appointment was cancelled and they could not rearrange it yet due to severe staff shortage. It turns out it was because the GP's wife had covid so he was not allowed into work. I was really surprised. Not saying it is not morally right, it is obviously ideal world what we would all do, just that I thought we had realised this isolating is not sustainable for businesses etc. I don't know any other workplace (unless WFH possible) telling workers not to come in if they are a close contact anymore.

I get doctors have close contact with the vulnerable but you would think a line has to be drawn somewhere? I am usually defensive of my surgery/the NHS but this really does seem to reinforce that general feeling things are backwards and there seems to always be excuses with GP surgeries now.

No I don't think the line has to be drawn with GP's seeing face to face vulnerable & sick patients. He can work from home. I hope his wife is ok.

You can request a telephone conversation if you're still needing an appointment. Did you do that? It was last week so I assume you solved the issue. Or is was this just supposed to be another 'bash the NHS' thread to whip up a bit more hate for us?

My trust hasn't cancelled covid sickness. We have over 200 in patients currently testing positive and luckily only 2-3 people off in our department.

In my hospital you come in if house hold members are positive.

Covid Isolation rules still apply to health workers here (Scotland).

Not in nhs Lothian. If you have a household contact who is positive you test everyday and continue to come to work if staff member remains negative.
You may be redeployed if work in s high risk area like chemotherapy.
