I'm 59 and started with Covid 7 days ago, never had it before now and it seems to have hit me quite hard. I've been in bed most of the time, sore throat, coughing, headaches, tiredness. I have no underlying health conditions but this doesn't seem to be shifting. My dd says I should be giving my GP a ring tomorrow to get advice but I don't want to bothering them if it's something I just need to work through. When my other dd's have had it they've only been affected for a couple of days but they are only in their twenties/early thirties. Any advice?

It does seem to affect people differently. I had it recently and was like you, feeling really ill and exhausted for a couple of weeks or so. I'm older than you so maybe age plays a part - and the fact that our vaccinations have probably worn off a bit now.

I would say that as long as you don't have any breathing difficulties you probably don't need to see a doctor, but no harm in checking if you're concerned.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

We have covid for the first time and both have had chills & sweats, painfully aching legs, painful backs, sensitive skin, upset tummies, coughs, painful necks, sore ears, pain in the lungs areas, headaches, fatigue, sore throats, itchy skin, rashes, lack of appetite (this has never ever happened to me before) .

Honestly the list goes on. It's like the gift that keeps on giving with a new fun symptom every day. I haven't felt this ill for as long as I can remember.

I tested positive on Monday, although suspect I was positive before that, and DH Sunday. On the bright side he is improving so am hoping I will soon too.

Hope you feel better soon xxx

PS There's another thread on here about people currently suffering covid, I found that quite reassuring to read

I'm also a first-timer and finding it harder than I'd expected (57 yrs here). Now on day 11 and have hardly moved from my bed! The first 5 days were the worst for temperature, headache, fatigue, dizziness, dodgy tummy.
Not really looking forward to trying to go back to work on Monday, which might not be realistic.
I found it reassuring to have a call with 111 yesterday, they were really helpful with advice.

So frustrating, but just have to be patient with it. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone, managed to get out of bed today, but only to lay on the sofa in the garden under a quilt! I figured the fresh air would do me good. Still have a sore throat and awful coughing but at least the headaches have gone. My DH is testing negative now. I'm not even bothering as I don't plan on going anywhere so I'll leave it a few more days. I was a bit run down before I went on holiday but I'm surprised how hard its hit me, time I started looking after myself I suppose.

Fresh air does help a lot even if it is just sitting. If you need to rest and can, rest. Use cold/ flu remedies to take the edge off the symptoms.

@cornflower123 would you mind sharing what advice 111 gave?
@MysteriousMonkey snap on the symptoms! Something new everyday 😟

MysteriousMonkey · 08/07/2022 12:21

@MrsTomHardy13 it really is the gift that keeps on giving... I just wish it wouldn't 😥

MysteriousMonkey · 08/07/2022 12:22

Which I realise I said before. Honestly the confusion is something else. Yesterday I was trying to work out how much something cost and couldn't do it. It was incomprehensible to me

Basically rest, and drink fluids. Use max dose of paracetamol and/or ibuprofen to keep temperature down. Don't sponge yourself down to reduce temperature- this was news to me, and was what I'd been doing! (to reduce use of painkillers). Apparently it reduces your temperature too quickly?
If breathing is ok, there's no need to worry- reassuring to be told that by a professional!

MrsTomHardy13 · 08/07/2022 12:56

@cornflower123 thanks for sharing. Breathing is about the only thing that’s ok for me so far! Will just have to be patient and hope the fatigue lifts soon.

It tends to take 10-11 days to feel better with this variant, and up to 2 weeks to test negative.
