Why can't I book second vaccine for 11yo

flexiblebenefit · 05/07/2022 12:21

My 11 yo had their first dose 12 weeks ago. I'm trying to book the second and keep getting this message

According to your vaccination records, you have been allocated a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine not currently available through this service.

The online booking service was useless. They told me to speak to my Gp who told me to call 119 who sent me back to my GP who say they have nothing to do with covid vaccines. It's been 10 days of faffing. He had the Pfizer vaccine first time round.
He's not clinically vulnerable in any way.

Any idea what's going on?

Hi, that's not good, frustrating they are all being unhelpful. I don't know why you're getting that message.

Could you try contacting your local NHS CCG via social media or phone? And have a look at walk in appointments locally - though not sure it's always possible to contact them in advance. Hopefully if they could find details of the first jab on his record, they'll see he's eligible for the second.

Homegirl24 · 01/10/2022 18:50

Can I ask if you made any headway with this or discovered what the cryptic message meant? I'm getting exactly the same trying to book an autumn booster for my mum who's in her 70s. And have had the same issue - GP surgery currently saying "nothing we can do/nothing to do with us".

Useruser1 · 01/10/2022 18:55

I think they no longer allow any under 12s to have them unless they are in the vulnerable group.

Same in a few countries... Denmark have done so for under 40s I think

noblegiraffe · 01/10/2022 18:56

They've stopped offering it to that age group.

MargaretThursday · 01/10/2022 18:57

Ds (15yo) has been called for his 4th, but there's constantly no appointments available. As soon as they release more, they're gone. We've been getting "why haven't you booked yet" texts from the surgery for nearly a month.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/10/2022 18:57

I think U12s are only meant to have one type (AZ?) - does the message mean your local vaccination centres don't have any of the appropriate vaccine?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/10/2022 18:57

Ignore me....

Tootels · 01/10/2022 19:00

I've not been able to book my dd1 and she was 12 in august. I didn't think I under 12s were able?

Actually, I'm not sure. I can't make sense of this article www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/06/anger-at-plans-to-roll-back-covid-vaccines-to-under-11s-in-england

orangina01 · 01/10/2022 20:23

Try going to a walk in with the little paper card showing the date of his first vaccine. I got a letter telling me to book my 10 yr old their 2nd jab but every time I went online it was sending me miles away. So I went to my local vaccination centre instead and walked in with my DC (they were doing appointments for elderly boosters) and they had space set up still to do 2nd jabs for kids. This was last week. They are definitely still doing them as they told me to do the same thing when my 6yr old was 12 weeks post Covid infection. They had it recently for the first time.

Workyticket · 01/10/2022 20:25

We went today for ds' first and got turned away.

Apparently they stopped doing them in August. We only bloody booked last week - I was really cross as it was a good half hour drive away too!

orangina01 · 01/10/2022 20:25

Should have said, my DC is not vulnerable either, so I'm certain they are still being offered. At least in my county!

richieric · 01/10/2022 20:28

I can't believe surgeries aren't booking them. The surgery I work in have created whole new jobs for each surgery in our groups for someone to come in surgery and their sole responsibility is to book Covid. Admin also book the vaccines too. It's just done through a different system than what we use. I would be frustrated if I was you.

noblegiraffe · 01/10/2022 19:33

I think this means that if your child is only now turning 5 they won't be offered it. But anyone who was already 5 as of 6 Sept or whatever can still get it. At least that's what I read it as and I think I remember that from when the story came out. It's not very clear is it?!

Useruser1 · 01/10/2022 23:10

Given the risk/ benefit ratio it might be for the best.

Maybe that's why it's been pulled from availability?

Nice try. As you well know

know from the thread it's only been pulled for new children. The users here clearly want to get it and have all the information they need to decide. Scaremongering for no reason isn't useful.

VanillaImpulse · 02/10/2022 09:02

It's not scaremongering, @Useruser1 has a good point

Hiheyho · 02/10/2022 10:11

You talk about people as users - this isn’t like demanding a load of bread, isn’t it? More and more stats and new research is coming out but been shun by bbc and alike.

Unfortunately, if you count GB News as reliable news, I know I won't be able to convince you that it's scaremongering. We'll have to agree to disagree I'm afraid. Respect your opinion but the OP and others on the thread clearly wanted to get their DC the vaccine, most likely doing their own research ahead of that. Then all the others roll up trying to make them doubt it with the GB News videos... Anyway, hope OP gets her original, legitimate query sorted out.

And I meant, Mumsnet users, obviously. 🙄

My 12 year old is immunosuppressed and due a booster. We have had numerous texts telling us to book for her, but get a no appointments available message. I asked the doctor yesterday and he said that under 18s can only have Pfizer and there isn't any available at present.

maranella · 02/10/2022 12:53

That makes sense @DrRuthGalloway. I think everyone is being given Moderna at the moment, so maybe they've not got any Pfizer left?

I took DS2 (age 11) for his 2nd dose on 5th Sept and the pharmacist said that they were going to stop doing young DC soon and that he'd got in 'just in time'.

I've got the same with my 15yo. I wish they wouldn't keep sending the texts as every time I get one I think it's worth trying.

KangarooKenny · 02/10/2022 21:38

Try ringing round the drop in centres. Ours had Pfizer last week.
