dc have had covid before, Dd actually twice but had little to no symptoms both times - testing her due to being a close contact. If I wasn't testing I wouldn't have noticed because her symptoms were minimal.

Ds had it too and last time it was general fatigue, off food and sore throat.

both kids have had snotty noses over the weekend and saying their throat hurts, but not poorly in the slightest, Norman energy levels, eating well etc. Honestly, I didn't think of testing them at first, but now I'm questioning myself. There's been quite a few cases at their schooo over the weekend.

of course, the simple solution would be testing but Ds is autistic and testing him is traumatic.

The advice is not to test children. The only reason I know that is because my 8yo D's has it and I tested him and then went to look up the guidelines.

His symptoms started with him saying his throat felt scratchy.

Then he lay around all day and I cuddled him and he was burning hot. So we took his temp (39.4) and did a test. Positive!

He's been off his food and very lethargic with a sore throat.

We tested him on Saturday and he seems a bit brighter today, but still got no energy.

I wouldn't test your D's if he finds it difficult, I'd just treat it like any other respiratory illness, keep him off school until he's well enough to go. Which is pretty much the guidance.

Hope he feels better soon.

I realised the advice was not to test children after i done it too.
My son has a cough that sounds like a bark, a runny nose, sore throat a headache and feels dizzy and a high temperature.
He had covid before. It was more cough and fever with less runny nose before. It triggered shingles too so he had a lot of pain from that.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 04/07/2022 09:25

DD has it at the moment. I only tested her because she is immunosuppressed and CV and because DH has Covid.

She had a slight itchy throat and a slight runny nose that disappeared over night. She is tired and that's all really.

Why is the advice not to test children? I'm not in the UK but will be shortly coming over to visit family. This advice makes no sense to me

Hives, conjunctivitis, cough and temperature in my one year old

conjunctivitis, cough, bad temper and fatigue in my three year old

TokyoSushi · 04/07/2022 22:56

Oh I didn't know about no test advice.

DD(9) tested positive about 4pm today, super high temp (40) terrible headache, generally lethargic & feeling awful.

mariebaby3 · 04/07/2022 22:56

My DS9 tested positive today, early days but he has a slight cough and a scratchy throat so far. He suffers with hayfever so usually feels rotten this time of year bless him. He was asymptomatic last time he had covid though so it’s looking like it’ll hit him a bit more this time around.

APurpleSquirrel · 04/07/2022 23:02

DS (4) has it - had a temperature, extreme tiredness & slept a lot, off food & irritable. Lasted one day & then fine since but tested positive the day after the symptoms. Tested because of cases at school/preschool.
Other children I know who have it atm have extreme tiredness, vomiting & nausea, headache, temp & muscle aches.

Whirlywooo · 04/07/2022 23:04

I didn't know the advice said to not test children either, until I looked up how long to keep my DD off school for.

DD's symptoms: physically sick, headache on one side, very hot, face was a funny yellow/green tinge. Stayed in bed for a full day, ok the next day.

Loocheeyar · 04/07/2022 23:09

Sore eyes , fever in mornings , tired , leg pains , headache

JamMakingWannaBe · 04/07/2022 23:14

Oh no...

First time round it was a headache and feeling sick.

DD has been complaining of a scratchy throat and a sniffly nose this evening...

Verite1 · 04/07/2022 23:45

Bit of a sore throat and minor cough. Tired for 24 hours. Second bout. First time was fever for 24 hours, then lethargic and off food for about a week.

Fizbosshoes · 05/07/2022 07:13

DD (15) recently had it. It was like a bad cold (sore throat, blocked nose, headache, sneezing) but she was negative by day 6

Whattodonowadays · 05/07/2022 07:47

We have just had covid, the baby wasn’t well either and I wasn’t going to test her but one day her nose was running and I literally just swabbed the snobs that were running out and it was positive! If your kids have a runny nose you can just swab that! You don’t have to stick the swab up the nose if you get what I mean! It was positive straight away.

One of mine (15) has a cough and a temperature, I need to test because I have a friend staying who's a transplant patient, we have about 6 tests left then we'll have to buy some if they run out. Where's the cheapest place to buy, the chemist is selling them for £40 for 20 tests which seems really expensive

I got a pack of 5 from Sainsburys for £9.50 - think they're roughly £2 per test.

redhearts · 06/07/2022 13:50

I've not tested my kids but I'm positive.

DS: high temp that calpol & nurofen would only bring down by 0.5 degrees, then diarrhoea for 2 days, off his food but has eaten a few small meals

DD: mild fever, has had diarrhoea for 48 hours now with today being the worst, off her food but has only managed a few snacks

Your friend can access free tests via the government website as a transplant patient.

GlitterSparkley · 06/07/2022 18:56

DD (9) has tested positive today. She has a cough and a bad headache which won’t shift with calpol. Temp around 38 so not mega high. She’s been coughing since monday. Tested yesterday and was negative but positive this eve but I suspect she’s had it since monday.

GlitterSparkley · 06/07/2022 18:57

DD had it in Nov too (which would have been delta). Seems worse this time around 😢

Hullabaloo31 · 07/07/2022 13:44

It's just been round school again and they were nearly all sick, bizarrely all starting in the night and sick through to the morning. It was just a school sick bug until a few started testing and realised it was covid doing the rounds again.
