Covid

My dd really doesn't want to test.

My other dd tested + last week. I had tests from work so tested. They iolated for 5 days before going back to school even though I know the guidelines are not to test under 18s. My other dd now has cold symptoms and I've suggested a test but she said she doesn't want to test and is upset by it. It feels irresponsible not to. Would you encourage it or are people not testing their children anymore?

I wouldn’t test myself so hardly likely to “encourage” my adult child to

Presuming no drip feed coming that she’s a care worker…

Thank you. I just needed another perspective on it.

I test mine with symptoms. Some do, some don't.

I’m not testing mine.

Here I think the guidelines are still to isolate if positive. I woke up with a cough this morning so tested myself. Thankfully negative but I have a few things planned for the next few days so it was important I tested.
Are people really suggesting they don't isolate anymore if they are positive?

We haven't bought any tests. As far as I'm concerned, if the government want me to test they need to provide them for free. As I didn't get symptoms with covid the first time I'm unlikely to spot it without regular testing! My DD's aren't testing either (university) since April

I would definitely test my children, have been and will continue to. I would hope other parents are also.

Leave the kid alone!

She doesn’t want it and she doesn’t need it so it would be wrong to try and coerce her into it. Just let her get on with her life, she has had enough taken away.

@sillysmiles

No requirement to isolate. I'm using the illness system we had prior to 2020 - if I feel ill I will take the day off work or miss a planned activity, if I'm not ill I do the aforementioned things. I don't want to increase single use plastic so no tests here

They don't have to test. If you are concerned then open windows and eat separately for a few days.

The vast majority aren't testing anymore as we've been told we don't need to test.

Tests are only available to a small proportion of the extremely clinical vulnerable category, those with transplants and who are immunocompromised. They been sent tests at home to send off for immediate antivirals.

My sister is one of them.

Everyone around here is still testing. I know quite a few people isolating at the minute.

Most people I know still seem to be testing and my DD ( usually a test refuser) got so upset at the idea of not testing when she had a cough I gave her one ( I was reasonably certain she didn't have it as her cough sounded nothing like mine when I had it and she didn't even get a cough when she did).
Saying that I wouldn't stress too much about not testing and sending them to the school they probably got it from in the first place if they were reluctant.

How do you even get a test? I’m not paying £6 a go which is the cheapest I’ve seen.

We all had Covid (again...) in March and haven't tested since. I won't be testing again unless I was required to for travel or something.

About £2 a test in Tesco.

I certainly wouldn't be letting her near anyone vunerable.

Basically this. If you know there is potential for her coming in close indoor contact with someone vulnerable, she should test or avoid them.

But otherwise, most people aren't testing any more. If the idea was still to test, they'd still be giving the tests out for free.

The advice is not to test under 18s unless advised by a medical professional. I would and have adhered to that guidance. I had it a few weeks ago and the kids went to school as normal, although they were cautious about seeing people outside that

They are under £2 each in supermarkets, Boots, Superdrug et al, if you can find some. A few weeks ago a virologist said if you have cold symptoms it is most likely that it is Covid as other viruses are less prevalent.

To be clear I myself did isolate when I had it. I don’t really care about Covid all that much now but it would have felt wrong to go out knowing I had it.

Can anyone shed light on what the actual requirement is?

just a bit confused.

can I still go to work if I were to test positive?
It’s not a legal requirement to isolate right?

(I’m just trying to make sense of it all now)

Recommendation is to work from home and keep away from more vulnerable people for at least 5 days.
