Brain fog - getting DP’s name wrong!

I had covid 4 weeks ago and I’m still struggling with fatigue and brain fog. It’s mostly fine- my work and my family have all been really supportive. DP has been brilliant with making sure I get plenty of rest etc. Which makes it especially embarrassing that for some reason I keep calling him by ex-husband’s name!

I split up with XH 11 years ago, but still talk to him regularly as we share DS12. We’re amicable but I wouldn’t describe us as friends. Definitely no residual feelings on either side! I’ve been with DP for 3 years and he lives with us. Remembering his name has never previously been a problem for me!

Obviously it’s not just this, I’m also frequently getting other words confused or forgetting what I was about to say, but this is most noticeable because it’s a name I say so often. DP is being very understanding, but I can see it’s beginning to hurt his feelings. Does anyone have any tips to help my brain get this straight?!

Time and rest and speak to your GP after 12 weeks to see what support is available.

I'm afraid it takes time. I know a lot if people who found their memory was affected. It can take 1-3 months. After which could be seen as long covid but in reality might just take a little longer.

Take a good b vitamin complex and vitamin D.

Some people find anti histamines help brain fog - make sure a sleepy one is taken at night though!

Thank you both. That’s interesting about the anti-histamines. I’ve just stated taking them over the last couple of days for hayfever. Will see if it makes a difference!

It's been found to be an effective treatment for some with long covid; not particularly the ones we'd get over the counter but worth a shot.

About 6-8 weeks after covid in Jan, four out of 6 of us who had it in my family got hives for a while. There seems to be a histamine thing with it.
