Covid - how often have you had it? How bad was it each time?

I have had Covid twice, once in 2020 (pre vaccines) which was horrendous, very unwell and ended up in hospital and then with Long Covid. Recovered after 18 months mostly, then had it again in April 2022, Omicron I assume but I was pretty rough, I had had 2 vaccines, it was like flu plus nausea for 10 days then I was better but exhausted for another 10 days or so. It was not fun but not scary ill like first time. No need for hospital.

I am wondering to those who have had it more times...say 3 or 4 and think they have had Omicron twice, how is it going? Is it milder each time or the same intensity? A friend I know has had it twice in 3 months (as has my daughter!) and thankfully for them the second time in those 3 months was milder, more like a cold than the first time which was as I have described flu like for over a week.

I am hearing reports of people having it 4 / 5 / 6 times and wondering how the intensity changes (if at all). I am certain natural immunity from round one (plus vaccine) helped me with Omicron but i still don't want it every 3 months 😢

I’ve had 2 vaccines plus booster and started with a fever and feeling a bit sick today. My DH tested positive today and has been I’ll since Friday- bad cough but is feeling a lot better already.

im hoping it will be as short for me too

Currently on sixth infection. Quadruple jabbed.

I've never been ill enough to require hospital care. The first time (March 2020) I was pretty unwell but the worst was the last one before this (April). Other than those two it's been thankfully very mild and in one case completely asymptomatic.

I've had it three times this year so all different Omicron variants, I'm guessing. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to how bad infections seem to be for me, though.

Three times. First time awful and it lasted a long time however I could still work from home. Awful headaches and sinus problems. Night time nausea.

Second time mainly cough and sinus symptoms. Lasted a few weeks.

Third time not bad at all. Bit of a sore throat prior to positive test and a bit of pressure on my chest but felt absolutely fine by day 3 and negative test on day 5.

Anecdotally from work where some have had it 3-4 times, there's no rhyme or reason to how it affects people, jabbed or un jabbed.

Some didn't know they had it first time (lft showed up) and then later infections floored them. Others it's been vice versa.

I first had it with omicron in Jan. Like flu for 10 days but- the fatigue that hit afterwards was horrific and lasted 3 months, with occasional breathlessness which didn't start till about week 6.

It's pushed me further into peri menopause though and I've had to twice move up hrt patch strengths since the infection. Not as brain fogged but exercise tolerance is less at the moment. If things don't resolve I'm going to push for testosterone!

I'm wondering if I had it last weekend (mild symptoms and I was in contact with a lot of people later confirmed.) in which case it was barely there but I've had a dose of dozy fatigue and a layered taste since. Nothing like the first time if so.

Knowingly once, 3 weeks ago, v mild

however had a really odd virus early 2020 which I have often wondered whether it could have been

Slampunk · 28/06/2022 21:43

I'm on bout 3. First very early (April 2020) and went to hospital but wasn't admitted. Just when it started and was only in retrospect that my GP has said he was 99% sure it was covid. Awful cough that lasted weeks.

Second time in Jan 22. Not a huge cough really but absolutely floored for 2 weeks. Physically exhausted -land flu aches for a good week.

Got it now. Been a week of heavy cold, sinus and exhaustion but defo not as bad. Had a few days off work. Day 9 today and feel ok ish. Head full of snot though still which is causing me headaches!

Porcupineintherough · 30/06/2022 09:39

I've had it 3 times (and vaxxed plus booster):

March 2020 wuhan covid - absolutely horrendous, borderline hospitalised, in bed for 3 weeks then long covid.

Dec 2020 alpha varient - like a fluey cold (plus burning skin and pins and needles which are covid symptoms for me). In bed for 2 days, took it easy for 2 weeks.

Feb 2022: omicron. Mild cold like symptoms but did get a resurgence of exhaustion in second week.

So for me at least it gets milder each time.

Discodreams · 03/07/2022 10:38

Had it in Dec 2020 pre-vaccines. It was horrendous, I have never been so Ill. Bed bound for 3 weeks, took about another month to be normal again.
had 3 vaccines.
got it again in April 2022 - still very poorly, couldn’t get out of bed for 3 days and had brain fog and and weakness for about a week. Still much better then the first time.
I think I’ve got it again now - symptoms exactly the same as April, just waiting for a delivery of LFTs to confirm. Currently day 3 of being on the sofa feeling really poorly.
I really really really don’t want it again. Sure it won’t kill me, or even send me to hospital, but I feel really ill.

Twice, once at the very beginning and it lasted several weeks. Loss of taste and smell, headaches, stomach upset, low energy but never felt worse than "under the weather"

Second time was fairly recent, triple jabbed, bit of a cough and cold very mild but I'm 8 weeks out and the tiredness is still lingering. Manageable but annoying.

Svara · 03/07/2022 10:54

Had it March 2020, now for the second time. Could have worked throughout last time if allowed and if I'd had no sick leave entitlement. Similar this time, just fatigued, feverish, bit of a cough. Last time I couldn't taste other than sweet/salty so on for a couple of weeks, this time just a nasty taste yesterday that seems to have gone away.

Bsmirched · 03/07/2022 11:00

Twice once after 2 x vaccines and again this year having had a booster in December. Both times were very mild sniffles and nothing I'd have stayed off work with if not for it being Covid.

mrsfoof · 03/07/2022 11:00

I've had all three jabs as Moderna (2 initial doses plus booster). I've only had Covid once, a couple of weeks ago (6 months after booster).
I had fever on and off for 36 hours then a slightly snuffly nose from day 2-3. Lost my sense of smell and taste from day 3. No cough, not really even much in the way of cold symptoms. I had a slight headache and mild sore throat during the initial fever only. Tested negative again by day 5, so very mild and short-lived really.

WarriorN · 03/07/2022 11:09

Since posting I've now got a second bout of omicron after 1st in January this year. Hadn't had it before to my knowledge and was doing x2 lft a week.

It's not as bad but I do feel unwell, flu like waves (especially from 9am - 11am ) and v v tired.

I had daily dozy mid morning headaches and fatigue for 5 weeks after the first jab and then for a few days after the second so hoping it's a similar pattern.

I'm also hoping fatigue is not going to last as long as I feel it's not as severe. I'm on twice the amount of hrt now so hopefully that will help too.

WarriorN · 03/07/2022 11:11

I had x2 AstraZeneca and one booster jab which was 5 weeks before we all caught the 1st omicron. Dh and I and youngest child were all similarly poorly though only I had lingering fatigue.

Eldest child had two temp spikes 3 days apart and was fine.
