Partner has tested positive and we have a brand new baby

Hi all. Panicking slightly here!

My partner has tested positive for COVID today. He feels okay aside from a sore throat and fatigue. We haven't tested her but our three year old has had a cough, temp, and been a bit grumpy so we assume she has it too.

We also have a four day old baby 😭 he seems absolutely fine. I have tested and am negative so far. I am just terrified of DS catching it and it making him very poorly because he's so young. I am triple jabbed and breastfeeding him.

Any advice/reassurance? Is there any point in asking DP to stay away from us as he's been around us, picking up DS ect for four days!

Thank you

If your triple vaxed and breastfeeding your little one will have some protection? Immunity can be passed through both placenta if you were vaccinated during pregnancy and through breastmilk.
Hope you are all ok

Congratulations on your new arrival. Everything you're feeling is completely valid but if it helps I was double jabbed and breastfeeding when our little girl got it from DH at 2 weeks. I was so worried, terrified really but there was honestly no need. I was moderately sick, DH more so as he got shingles as a complication and DD never even knew she had it! The worst thing was the worry and the isolation with a newborn and a toddler....and a covid cough with a new c section wound! TBH DH couldn't really isolate as I needed help with baby and toddler....but as I said no illeffects on the kids at all.

Best advice I got was to breastfeed on demand and get as much into her as possible for the antibodies and I truly believe this helped. Be kind to yourself, and try not worry too much.

I wouldn't bother with isolating etc. I tested positive for COVID during labour and DD almost certainly caught it from me when she was hours old. Slight stuffy nose, that was it.

i would t worry about it. You need to be together as a family. Keep windows open, maybe get you DH to wear a mask but apart from that get on with life and your new baby

Children have been very mildly affected by covid, far less so than they are by all the usual respiratory viruses! So the most likely thing is that your baby will be completely fine, very few babies have been ill with covid. But as with any illness and such a small baby, if you're at all worried about her breathing or feeding etc get her checked out.

Your body will make antibodies to covid if you get it, so you will be protecting him via your breast milk. There is also some miraculous process by which if a baby has a virus, he can convey that fact to you via your nipples when he feeds and you will make the antibodies for him. Damn clever things, boobs!

Similar situation here. Baby was born 8 days ago, husband tested positive on day 3 and I tested positive this morning (had symptoms for 2 data before this but negative tests).
baby was coughing last night so barely taken my eyes off him today.
Been feeling very stressed as been having some issues with breastfeeding so expressing to get extra fluids in.
haven’t managed to contact midwife yet for advice, everything I’ve looked up is out of date or not of any use.

my husband stayed away til this morning as he was so worried about being around us but i’d obviously already picked it up so I’d say to just let him help out. This new strain seems extra contagious so unlikely to escape it xxx
