Negative Covid Test but GP refuses to see patient as they have symptoms

My adult DS struggles at this time of year with hayfever. He called me last night to say he thinks he may have asthma as struggling to breathe (both his dad and brother have asthma) This morning he said he had a terrible night struggling to breathe but his GP wont see him as he has COVID symptoms, (he has done a LTF test and is negative) I told him to go to the walk in centre as he is so breathless. (he is on his way there now) He doesn't live at home and has a different GP to me but I am sure if you have done a test and are negative you should be seen for being breathless. Interested to hear others experiences on this.

This is just ridiculous! I'm happy he's going into the walk in center but some hayfever symptoms are similar to that of COVID and the fact that hes tested negative and he's still being refused is outrageous to me.

Yes those are my thoughts too. He does suffer very badly with hayfever, in fact each year he seems to be getting worse and worse so it could be that. He has been triaged by the nurse and told its a 6 hour wait to see the doctor. I have witnessed my other son having a serious asthma attack in the past where he became hypoxic and was rushed to hospital, thats why I was suprised the GP refused to see him.

Are Gp's even allowed to do that , so many other illnesses have same symptoms as covid can , even a headache can be covid and if he has taken a test thats all you can do

Hes been seen now and prescribed prednisolone and an inhaler. He messaged me to say wearing a mask in the waiting room was making his breathing worse and he had only 10 minutes left on the parking meter. I suggested he tell the receptionist that he needs to pop out and top up his parking and ask if he can not wear his mask when he comes back to wait as he was really struggling to breathe, she noted his breathing and was immediately taken into see the doctor. So he is all sorted now. Apparently according to the doctor my DS was the 3rd person he had seen that day with the same symptoms caused by Hay fever/pollen count. He suggested my son have the steroid injection which he is considering. Thanks for the responses.

Why can they see patients but gps can't. Its very strange
When i had covid i was having treatment at drs via nurses and wasn't allowed in for 10 days after positive test despite testing negative day 6&7 yet the receptionist said they had to go in if negative day 5, likely I caught it from surgery as well as at time wfh and not going anywhere due to my injury

Your GP should still see you even if you have Covid, though they may ask you to come at end of day etc.
My GP didn't even ask if my snotty, coughing, feverish DD had done a test before seeing her the other week.

Can you call the surgery and lodge a complaint? This is absolutely unacceptable. Thank goodness your son was sorted but this could have been worse.
