Covid and holidays

I'm on day 6 of having Covid and I'm totally wiped out. I haven't left my bed since Tuesday. My headache and sinusitis has cleared but chest feels heavy and painful at times. We are supposed to be going on a family holiday to Caribbean next Friday. Am I likely to be able to make it? Do people make a big recovery after a week? I'm so fed up....have waited 4 years for this holiday 😫

I had delta last summer and felt nearly 100% better, suddenly on day 10. For me, wasn’t like other illnesses where you gradually feel better, it was an over night recovery.

if all you’re required to do is sit on a plane then sit on a beach I think you’ll be ok

Omg. Go in the holiday.
best thing you could do for yourself.
just be kind to yourself in the lead up to it. Get others to help with packing etc.
book fast pass security if you can.
park your car as close to the terminal as you can.

Thanks so much for the reassurances ......we are going to a 5 star resort ( celebrating a few milestone birthdays!), so literally just have to get there, check in and relax. I'm travelling with dh, and 4 'kids' , 15 to 22yrs , so have lots help. It's such a weird virus....sometimes I feel ok and then suddenly feel like I've been hit by a bus! I can't believe I got it....managed to avoid it until now and when we are finally getting to go on holidays, I catch it🤒

I tested postive in Palma last weekend.
currently laying on the sofa watching Netflix!
no energy to do much else.

On your flight, please take all precautions against deep vein thrombosis as covid increases your risk for this in the months following infection. Do wear flight docks, drink water and get up from your seat once an hour if you are able

TheRoadToRuin · 19/06/2022 15:13

My DS got covid 12 days before a holiday. I rang the travel insurer for advice in case he wasn't fit to travel or was still testing positive. They were happy to refund but required a pcr test. I paid £35 for a private test. Fortunately he was fine and negative by day 10.
Covid seems to affect people very differently so no-one can predict for certain how you will feel next week. My DS was fine after 2 days but his friend is still unwell 12 weeks later.

Deplorable, I hadn't heard of the greater risk of dvt following Covid. I have had previous dvts and PE so am on Warfarin. During flight, I will make sure that I walk every hour and wear my compression stockings. Theroadtoruin, I thought you could still be positive weeks after Covid, even if not contagious? Thankfully, I'm feeling a lot better today. Hopefully I will keep getting stronger and at least I can recuperate on beach!

How many days after covid will you be clear and are you isolating from other family members ?

AnSionnachGlic · 20/06/2022 22:39

I am day 8 now and feel much better. My doctor said that current guidelines are isolation for 7 days ( I'm in Ireland), so I'm past isolation now. I'll be travelling day 13.

Glad your feeling better are your family not considered close contacts as well ? My dilemma is travelling in 5 days and work colleague tested positive and we worked a 8 hr shift although prob at least a metre apart etc and lunch outside , but if someone has covid can your family members still travel according to ireland rules ? Or have you managed to isolate

AnSionnachGlic · 20/06/2022 23:33

I did isolate from my family for 7 days and thankfully they didn't catch it. We are all triple vaccinated and the guidance here now, is isolate for 7 days if covid positive, but close contacts don't have to isolate, unless they have symptoms. For travel, we just have to produce our vaccination certs, and don't have to do a PCR test.

Are they permitting people in with such recent infections? Do you have to do anything with regards having had it?

worriedatthistime · 22/06/2022 19:52

@MamanDeChoix why wouldn't they permit them as prob safer than someone who hasn't had it in some ways as not likely to get again so Quickly
