My sister had covid in early January this year. She is still testing positive. Never had a negative test at all. Has anyone else heard of this?

Faulty batch of tests?
not testing correctly?
testing after eating or drinking so affecting accuracy?

I haven’t heard of anyone testing positive for so long & our employer needs a negative test before allowing people back in work.

No I don't think it's any of those things. She's never even had a negative.

How often is she testing? Is it possible she's caught it again?

LeftFootForward · 08/06/2022 09:34

Hi OP,

This sounds like an interesting situation. Is your sister actually unwell with the positive tests, or has she been initially unwell and now is recovered but still showing a positive?

Toddlerteaplease · 08/06/2022 09:54

She's been testing weekly I think. I told her to stop, but I think she's doing it out of curiosity. She was symptomatic when she first got it. I do wonder if she's had it again though. Especially when it was rife earlier in the spring.

Which tests is she using and is it a clear positive or a faint line. Lots of people including my DS seem to get faint lines on the flowflex ones (his real positive was a lot clearer).

I mean I think I'd be testing weekly too in her situation. It's very odd.

Are they flowflex tests?
I've heard of people continually getting positive tests with these

LeftFootForward · 08/06/2022 10:23

It's an odd one, but as long as she isn't actually unwell (or noticing everyone all around her dropping like flies) I wouldn't worry about it.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/06/2022 10:56

I'm just sure which brand they are. It's the ones from the NHS. She's going to buy some that are a different brand to see if it's different. Apparently they follow the exact same pattern every time.

There were several nhs ones. I have 3 different ones - orient gene, flowflex and then unbranded ones - all came from the nhs

Queenofteal · 15/06/2022 15:13

I've heard of this before. People testing positive on flow flex ones when they weren't positive

Penguintears · 15/06/2022 15:15

My DD always tests positive on Flowflex. We have to use the other ones for her.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/06/2022 15:59

Our parents have got her some different ones. Though I throughly enjoy telling her that she's a freak of nature!🤣

Does she have a compromised immune system? I remember there was a report of a man who tested positive for over a year but he had various medical issues.

ididntwanttopostthis · 16/06/2022 11:04

There was an article I remember reading that some people have more acidic saliva, which is why certain tests like Flowflex will show false positives for some people and not others.
