Why have I never tested positive?

Thingsaregonnachange · 07/06/2022 09:05

Been around many people with covid including my own household twice and never tested positive or became ill with it. I even had my daughter cough directly in my face because I wanted to get it over and done with.
We have just been away to America and were all poorly over there. I am 99% sure it was covid but again didn't test positive. When we had returned and were feeling much better, I checked I was still negative & we went to see my parents. Within 3 days they had both tested positive for covid and are now poorly with it. Seems very coincidental as they don't really go anywhere. If they had caught it from elsewhere I was around them for that day when they would have been contagious. I've tested every day since seeing them, it's now 10 days later and nothing . I'm triple vaxed. Anyone else never tested positive but think that they have had it?

DH is the same, we think it’s his super power

Crazykatie · 07/06/2022 09:10

It happens a lot DIL had Covid in the family all tested positive except younger son and he had the same symptoms, no explanation that I have heard.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/06/2022 09:13

I'm the only 1 at work who hasn't had to isolate or had covid.

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/06/2022 09:15

I’m the same. Even when I got ill with something that ticked every covid box I was testing negative. We joke I had covid 20…

iwanttobeasquare · 07/06/2022 09:21

Same - I've had coughs / heavy chest a few times but always test negative Inc with PCR. And DH has had it twice and we share a bed. It's weird.

HidingFromDD · 07/06/2022 09:22

Me too. Even came down with exactly the same symptoms as my lodger but 48 hours later. He tested positive for 6 days, I was negative all the way through. Even googled exactly how to test in case I was doing it wrong.

Vapeyvapevape · 07/06/2022 09:25

I'm amazed I've not caught it despite being around people who had tested positive.

Thingsaregonnachange · 07/06/2022 09:27

I do think that I have had it on more than one occasion. But I think for some reason I don't show as positive on tests? It's very wierd

Same here. Been exposed countless times and never isolated the Dcs when they had it.

There is a theory with some viruses that constant low level exposure gives you an immunity though as your body is constantly fighting it off., That makes some sense to me.

Mind you- I am wondering if there is a new variant around. I have started hearing story after story of friends and family having all the symptoms and feeling really unwell, yet testing negative consistently until about 2 weeks and more after they first get symptoms when they are already on the mend. Hard to tell now that all mitigating measures have been thrown away and barely anyone gets PCR tests now though.

Schmz · 07/06/2022 09:32

Me !!!
several times I’ve been in contact with positive covid people
felt unwell around same time
ever tested positive -
baffling

Shortpoet · 07/06/2022 09:34

I’m the same including having covid positive children coughing in my face!

First time I had a slight headache one day but no other symptoms and no positive test.
Second time my family had it I had no symptoms and no positive test.

Triple vaxxed.

Also on daily steroid inhalers for asthma which they think has a slight protective effect. I’m wondering if anyone else is.

ErinAoife · 07/06/2022 09:34

What type of test did you do? I know a lot of people who tested negative with the home test but when they went for PCR test in Centre they were positive but home test still show negative

onelittlefrog · 07/06/2022 09:35

If you're had it, you may have had a low viral load, or you may not have been doing the test properly. If you haven't had it, you might just not be susceptible, or the vaccines worked.

Whatever it is, I would say it's extremely foolish to get your daughter to cough at you to 'get it over and done with'.

Covid doesn't get over and done with. You can catch it again and again, sometimes only a couple of months later. It's really daft to expose yourself on purpose.

Sienna9522 · 07/06/2022 09:38

My whole family and extended family have had it on multiple occasions. I worked in a hospital throughout the whole thing. I’m 39 weeks pregnant. I’m unvaccinated. Had cold/flu symptoms on a couple of occasions but never tested positive. I find it really bizarre.

Instantnoodles · 07/06/2022 09:38

I'm the same. I've had multiple prolonged exposures and never tested positive.

Ostryga · 07/06/2022 09:40

I tested twice a week for work, Dd has had it twice, everyone at work went down with it. Never had a positive test! No idea, must have superior white blood cells or something.

And I only ever had one jab.

Oh yes me too re asthma daily steroids.

I travelled in a 6 hour round car journey with my DH and DD coughing and spluttering and still didn’t catch it. I figured that since I sleep in the same bed as DP and cuddle up on the sofa with DD there wasn’t much point in avoiding getting in a car with them. I tested regularly and didn’t get it.

LindaEllen · 07/06/2022 09:44

I'm the same. There have been a couple of situations where I have been in very close contact with people who then test positive, I have exactly the same symptoms yet never test positive.

DP got it in 2020 and I wasn't going out at all then so can't possibly have got anything from anyone else (I was very anxious about it) and again I caught whatever he had, yet was testing negative. All very strange.

Norachance · 07/06/2022 09:44

Me too. Both dh and dd had it on separate occasions. I work in a medical centre and am the only one who hasn't had it. We test twice a week and daily if someone has it at home. I have had my two vacs and a booster. I commute on tube and bus. I wear a mask at work but rarely outside now though in the first two years I wore it everywhere.

Beamur · 07/06/2022 09:51

I've not tested positive or been unwell either. Neither has DH. DD had it once, mildly.
Catching it may actually may you more likely to get it again! Immunity is short lived with coronaviruses (which is why we catch multiple colds)
Have had lots of exposure through voluntary work with kids too.
I also use daily preventative inhalers but DH doesn't.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 07/06/2022 09:56

Me!!!

MenopauseSucks · 07/06/2022 09:58

Probably pushing my luck but...

I've been around people that have tested positive, some with symptoms & some without & I have always tested negative. Haven't had any symptoms myself - no cold or f flu.
I've travelled on public transport to & from & in London throughout the pandemic since March 2020 so don't know if this has helped?

I spent a pleasant 12hrs in A&E in a Covid red zone room.
It was room meant for one bed but had two beds crammed in so very cosy & the door was kept shut unless people were coming in & out.
My family member had been put in there as there was nowhere else - A&E was full.
Other patients had tested positive and they were hacking & spluttering all over the place.
My elderly sick family member was in with bacterial pneumonia, she had regular blood tests & she didn't catch it!

I've done LFTs, PCRs & antibody tests as part of the ZOE App but nothing.
I'm still LFT-ing regularly as visit my Mum in a care home & so far, again, I've been lucky.

I'll go down with it now.

BaublesAndGlitter · 07/06/2022 10:00

Same here. DH had it last year. We were sharing a bed for 3 days while he had symptoms before he tested positive and went into the spare room.
I had the same symptoms but worse but tested negative the whole time.

I've also spent a lot of time looking after my niece and nephew the day before they tested positive - again had symptoms but tested negative throughout.
It's weird

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 07/06/2022 10:03

Same here! I didn’t catch it when my dds had it and have been in contact tac5 with other positive people.

Im a teacher too so doubly weird how I’ve avoided it! One of very few staff never to have (knowingly) had it. I do wonder if there’s so something in the theory about low viral load 🤷🏽‍♀️.
