Indoor concert - how likely will I catch covid

SummersBreeze · 05/06/2022 23:59

I was very nervous of covid from the start of the pandemic. I took the advice seriously and limited my contacts. As time went on, my nerves eased up and the vaccines help tremendously.

I was definitely gone back to living life normally as much as possible over the past few months and covid was at the back of my mind.

Tonight was my first serious mixing with crowds for the first time in a long time. I was at an indoor concert.

How likely will I catch covid from this experience? Will this be an exposure risk. I have 4 vaccines in me with the last one inf February and I suspect I had covid in March but it was mild.

Ask us another one 🤷‍♀️

My guess is probably the same chance as if you popped to the shops to pick up a pint of milk.

Fullofpudding · 06/06/2022 00:12

I'd say very low as the rates of covid in the UK are very low right now.

Cas112 · 06/06/2022 00:13

Low op

CandyLeBonBon · 06/06/2022 00:16

You'll be fine op. Or you might not.

You may also get run over by a bus or attacked by a rogue alligator.

If you've taken all the correct precautions, then follow the guidelines, wash your hands, make your own risk assessments and go from there. It's up to you how much you choose to engage in the world.

I'm fairly sure you'll be fine.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/06/2022 00:21

With four vaccinations you'll be fine if you do catch it.

We've been to the theatre and opera lots of times, on the tube, etc. We followed the rules when we had to but have lived normally when we can.

SummersBreeze · 06/06/2022 00:24

I was in the standing, front section right at the stage. There was some serious moshing and mixing going on.

First post covid gig I went to I caught covid (only place I could have got it as hadn't been out for a week before. After 3 vaccines and it also being my second bout, I was pretty poorly for 3 weeks (in March). Still feeling not back to 100%.
Whether you get it will just depend on whether people there with covid and you happening to come into contact with them. I don't know anyone who has had it for a while, whereas in March felt like every 3rd person I spoke to had it. You will likely be okay.

Floralnomad · 06/06/2022 00:34

I’ve been to a few concerts in the last year and I’ve not caught it yet .

SpringRainbow · 06/06/2022 04:54

You may catch it, you may not. No one on here knows.

You are just as likely to catch any other virus or bug as well.

I'd say very low as the rates of covid in the UK are very low right now.

Are they?!

Useyourfork · 06/06/2022 19:01

According to Zoe there’s 1600000 ish active cases in the UK as of today, likely more as Zoe contributors are probably likely to be more careful. That’s 1600000 out of 67 million. So about 1 in 50? Some of these will be poorly so won’t be out so let’s say roughly 1 in 100 of the concert goers will be actively infectious. They likelyhood of those people spreading the virus to others would be quite high though as they will be projecting particles through singing and talking above high music. Your probably more likely not to catch Covid than to catch it but still could be unlucky.

Blughbablugh · 06/06/2022 19:11

I went to a gig in December a didn't catch anything. It felt like they'd upgraded the air conditioning and seemed to have a good air flow through the venue. However I did catch covid in Morrisons on Christmas Eve.

Catname · 06/06/2022 19:17

I’m pretty sure that I caught Covid at a packed indoor standing gig - despite wearing a mask. It was very mild though.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 06/06/2022 19:21

You aren't expecting an actual answer to this question are you?

How could anyone possibly know, where have you been for the past 2plus years 😀

PrescriptionOnlyMedicine · 06/06/2022 20:14

I’ve been to five gigs this year, convinced every time I’ll pick up covid. I haven’t yet 🤞🏻

SummersBreeze · 06/06/2022 20:43

It was a smallish venue. I think it holds about 400 or 500 or 600 people. I am nervous now because I was on the floor near the stage and as the night progressed more and more people came onto the floor up near the stage and by the end of the night I was pushed from my spot right at the front of the stage to near the back. It was crazy.

I feel of it was a seated gig with everyone with their own assigned seats maybe it wouldn't have been so crowded.

I'm upping my dose of vitamin C for the week and fingers crossed hoping for the best.

Are you clinically vunerable OP? If not I really wouldn't worry.

Derbee · 06/06/2022 23:24

You’ve got a fairly good chance of catching it. But with so many vaccines in you, you’ve got an overwhelming likelihood to feel like you’ve got a bit of a very mild flu for a couple of days if you do get it.

TippledPink · 06/06/2022 23:25

My work colleague has just caught it along with 65 members of her choir after doing a concert. I work busy bars every weekend and haven't caught it there, caught it at Christmas when socialising with two people. No one can answer you!

Threetulips · 06/06/2022 23:29

So 1/50 people have Covid (which has to be a guess as people aren’t testing or recording) out of a venue of 600 max that’s a total of 12 people in the whole venue.

You probably stood near a large group of say no more than 12 - that leaves 588 people nowhere near you.

Gives you a 0.25 chance it was someone next to you - roughly.

MintyCedricRidesAgain · 06/06/2022 23:31

I went to a comedy gig early March...full capacity of about 800 and had a notification the following afternoon to say I'd been in close contact with a positive case there.

I didn't catch it. DD is at sixth form and both her closest friend had it around the same time, in classes and on the bus to and from together...she didn't catch it on either occasion.

We've each had 3 x Pfizer.

Threetulips · 06/06/2022 23:35

Actually less - 0.25% chance of being next to someone with Covid and less chance of actually catching it

Thank you for the reply. Fingers crossed I get away without a dose of covid.
