Covid Swab 3 days before surgery - need to self isolate?

My son is due his Adenotonsillectomy on Friday.
He has to have a covid test on Tuesday. It doesn’t say in his letter that he needs to self isolate. The info online on the government website says “withdrawn”.

He’s at nursery on Wednesday but off on Thursday. I am not sure whether I need to keep him off on Wednesday too.

I would keep him off, possibly all week, just because any cold or virus however mild (but particularly covid) could make recovering from the op harder for him.

I had surgery recently and didn’t have to isolate. Just an LFT on the day itself. It will depend on your own trusts rules.

Would you be happy for them to operate if he does pick up covid at nursery on the Wednesday? Surgery always carries a risk and been operated on whilst having any kind of infection increases that risk. They are asking you to isolate for his own benefit, I would follow their instructions.

I had a Covid and mrsa swab 3 days before last month and had to isolate from then until the op so def no nursery. Pointless testing otherwise

They won't operate if he picks up covid. Covid + general anaesthetic = not great so if they do a test on the morning of the op and it's positive it'll be postponed for at least 7 weeks.

I don't think you do have to isolate any more which is why it doesn't say but tbh if you can I would. Or at least not send him to nursery unless you really have to.

Our trust is still advising to isolate once he has been tested. If you can keep him off nursery it would be ideal but it’s down to the hospital tbh. I’m sure some don’t though…..

DH had operation 3 weeks ago and had to do a LFT and take test in with him, it also suggested isolation 3 days before operation, but it wasn’t compulsory.

My son had an op last week, Covid test two days before, no request to isolate and no further test on the day.
