Would you go out now if positive?

Hi,

Just that really. Fully jabbed. Been very lucky and swerved it so far, but came back from holiday last week and within a day or two felt a little rough, then developed a cough and cold, so did a test and got a very positive result.

I've been in all week, but I know by law I don't need to be. Still testing positive, but honestly, I don't know if I need to stay in anymore.

Would you?

It’s all so confusing.

Im on day 9. NHS Covid app said to stop isolating after 7 days. Government advice is 5 days if you can. Or 10 if still positive.

so, 5, 7 or 10 days?🤯

MrsVillanelle · 22/04/2022 13:11

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow I know! But we're not required to isolate by law at all now are we?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 22/04/2022 13:23

No, we’re not it’s all guidance.

My family have made me isolate in our room! At first l was bored, but it’s so nice not having to think of dinner or washing. I don’t want to come out!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/04/2022 13:26

No but I wouldn't have tested in the first place so I wouldn't know.

Wednesdayafternoon · 22/04/2022 13:27

Someone at home as Covid and I'm feeling a bit sniffly.
I darent take a test as I feel like if I test I have to stay at home, if I don't test I can go out to quiet places IF I need to and get better on my own like I would anything else.... I'm sock of this 5, 10 day thing people around me still keep talking about :(
People are SO judgmental about this.

AngelaRayner4PM · 22/04/2022 13:29

I wouldn't know. I've fun out of LFDs and they've stopped PcR testing Haven't they? So if I get cold/cough/temp I'll treat it like any other upper respiratory infection now. Can't see what the alternative is?
I guess because you know it would feel different morally or something? It's hard to know really

nearlyspringyay · 22/04/2022 13:31

I wouldn't test now so wouldn't know.

Mindymomo · 22/04/2022 13:31

We recently had covid, the only time we left the house whilst still positive was to walk the dog and then crossed the road if anyone approached. I cancelled dentist and hairdressers appointments and DH had to cancel a hospital appointment. I had shopping delivered. My 2 adult DS’s were negative on days 5 and 6, but day 6 was a Friday, so they were told to work at home till the Monday.

Delphinous78 · 22/04/2022 13:34

No, absolutely not.

CarmenThePanda · 22/04/2022 13:36

I wouldn't go out with Noro virus, infecting other people, and there is no law about that.

I didn't go out with Covid as I don't want to infect other people.

Do we need laws to tell us how to behave considerately and with common sense?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/04/2022 13:41

I'd go into work.

Dspx · 22/04/2022 13:52

I have it at the moment and am staying home, I know it's not law but I wouldn't want to pass it on to someone vulnerable. I do feel terrible though so that might be clouding my judgment.

Palease · 22/04/2022 13:54

I stayed in for 7 days. The advice on the website is to isolate for 5 and after that stay after from vulnerable people for 10 days. I was confused though as how can I be sure there are no vulnerable people in the supermarket, park, shopping centre, gym etc? Also, if I’ve to stay away from them I assume that means I’m still infectious, and if so, I don’t want to infect my friends and family. It’s so confusing.

OctopusSay · 22/04/2022 13:56

I'd stay in for the 5 days of the guidance, but I'd be expected back at work after that.

Scianel · 22/04/2022 14:02

I wouldn't test.

bumblefeline · 22/04/2022 14:06

I'm not testing so I wouldn't know if I had it or not. If I felt ill I would stay in.

I have been feeling poorly for a few days haven't got a clue what it is, so have stayed in. Feel better today so will venture out tomorrow.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 22/04/2022 14:09

I'm on day 6 today, I have been out once as I'm a single parent and had to collect dd from somewhere local.

I haven't felt great so not really wanted to go anywhere tbh.

By Sunday I'm hoping I'll be well enough to go out...

AngelaRayner4PM · 22/04/2022 14:10

I agree about norovirus but with that it's 48 hrs from D or V and that is really clear and easy to follow (I wish everyone did, but that's another issue!)
However with covid the guidelines are a mess and not everyone can/will test. It's why the government should have continue the testing IMO

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/04/2022 14:12

D&V is different, it's not usually a full 10 days of isolation and I doubt anyone with D&V would feel up for going out anywhere. When I had Covid it was barely a cold, I had 10 days off work for no reason, I was well enough to work. Can't WFH.

SallyWD · 22/04/2022 14:14

No, definitely not. I'm a heakthy 47 year old who's fully jabbed. I was ill for 4 weeks with Omicron then got a chest infection that lasted weeks. There's no way I'd inflict that on someone else.

Incapacitated · 22/04/2022 14:16

With the pressure on our hospitals as they are and vulnerable people finally getting out and about again, I would certainly test and isolate until negative. The result is mayhem.

Incapacitated · 22/04/2022 14:16

alternative

MsMartini · 22/04/2022 14:17

I've just had covid and stayed in while feeling unwell, and went out for quiet walks when I was feeling better.

You can't be sure there are no vulnerable people in indoor public spaces, so it is best not to go to them if you can avoid it, hence the guidance:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/when-to-self-isolate-and-what-to-do/.

The risk of being infectious declines as you go on, as explained here: ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2022/01/01/using-lateral-flow-tests-to-reduce-the-self-isolation-period/.

Tests are available at under a tenner for five from high street chemists and online, so that is an option for some people, given that symptoms are not much of a guide to when you are infectious. I will be using them before visiting vulnerable family.

www.boots.com/flowflex-antigen-rapid-test-lateral-flow-self-testing-kit-5-tests-10312496.

For me, the difference the change in the law has made is that I could go for quiet walks - which were never really a public health risk but the legal duty had to be clear cut, obviously. I would try to avoid infecting others, whether bound by a legal duty, by guidance, or by my own common sense.

Alwayspaintyournails · 22/04/2022 14:19

I would still isolate, I think it’s so selfish to spread anything about unnecessarily.

Mumoblue · 22/04/2022 14:20

No? I wouldn’t go out if I had the flu or any other illnesses I knew to be contagious. Isn’t that common sense?
Obviously there may be SOME circumstances where people absolutely have to go out but they should do their best not to and to avoid others.
