Should I get my DD vaccinated ?

I'm triple jabbed and had awful side effects after each one never caught COVID . DD who is 8 has had COVID and suffered no symptoms it was picked up on a PCR when got back from holiday. I've received a letter today through the post encouraging me to get my DD the vaccine. I'm not keen when COVID has been asymptomatic for her.

I had my 9 year old vaccinated, though in retrospect he was probably brewing covid at the time. long covid is a thing in kids.

Just because a first infection is asymptomatic doesn't mean the next one will be. And Long Covid risk too as the PP above mentions.

I had the same letter for dd also 8. I’m
not going to do it. Consensus amongst parents of her friends seems to be the same.

We can’t answer for you
we can just tell you what we are doing
no my two aren’t

Out of pure nosiness, why did you have a pcr when you returned from holiday?

I’m planning to have my 9 yo DD vaccinated for exactly the same reason she had all her other vaccines. Like something such as measles, the vast majority of cases will be mild or even asymptomatic but for a small number of children it could be catastrophic or cause life long complications.

Also I recently bought travel insurance for a couple of trips abroad this summer and it stipulated that we would not be covered for cancellation or medical expenses due to covid if anyone in our party who was eligible to be vaccinated had not been.

I'm not going to get DD vaccinated for Covid - she's had it, it was the same as a bad cold, and every variant gets milder, so it seems.

I may get her vaccinated in future if I need to do so for travel.

I'm not vaccinating 8yo DS yet. Maybe in the future.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 22/04/2022 14:55

I wouldn’t

I've just had my 8 and 6 year old vaccinated, all they had was a sore arm for side effects. Both have had covid, 1 asymptomatic and the other was moderately poorly. To be honest there was not a huge turn out at the vaccination centre even though the volunteers and Dr's and nurses had made it very child friendly. I am pro Vaccine but I did check with a friend of mine who is a pediatric physio and she recommended it as they have just had to start developing programmes for children with long covid. I have a cousin with long covid, caught before she could be vaccinated and I don't want any degree of what she's struggling with for my dc.

May I ask what company that is?

Nobody can tell you what to do, of course, but I definitely would. My DD had two bouts of Covid in quick succession (Delta then Omicron) and has been left so unwell. She's only just starting to recover now, it's been months. It seems as though there may be some permanent effects on her health too. If there was any way we could have avoided this, then I would. DD is getting vaccinated next week - we've had to wait ages because it was only 12 weeks since she tested positive at the start of the Easter holidays and we were away, so this is the first appointment we could get. I cannot wait and am so nervous that she'll pick it up again between now and then.

It does present like a cold for lots of people but it does horrible things to some. I wish people would take it more seriously.

We wanted to get our 10yo vaccinated before she started Secondary school.
We got our 9yo vaccinated at the same time as we couldn't find any reason not to.

Neither has had any side effects except boredom in the queue.
