So I have bad health anxiety and now I've finally tested positive for covid I just cannot rationalise and my mind keeps going to the worst case scenarios and I feel like I can't calm myself down.
I'm 34 no underlying health conditions but BMI is 31.8. Have had all 3 vaccines.
I've had just a slight sore throat since Monday and a bit of congested nose today and yesterday otherwise no fever, feel ok and able to do daily tasks. Oxygen levels are between 98-99.
I just keep going over the stories I remember reading about people feeling ok and then going downhill and having to go on a ventilator 😭
I'm so so scared and worried I can't think about anything else 😭😭

Ok its tough. Its a tough one. You know about your anxiety and this is probably going to be a rough ride. But you have back up in the form of the NHS if you feel you need help. Until then maybe plan out each day? What are you going to eat? Watch? Do you have anyone else living with you. Take each hour at a time until you've done a day can you get outside in the fresh air?

Dontknownow86 · 17/04/2022 16:41

Honestly I had the same symptoms and that was the extent of it. I know loads of people that have had it recently and only one was more flu like than cold like and they recovered absolutely fine. Also on comparing notes they felt worse from the offset. If you've had it since Monday you will already be on the way to recovering so just keep yourself calm and make sure you eat and drink well for the next few days til you come back clear.

The covid also makes some peoples anxiety worse so its like a double edge sword. X

I know it’s easy for us to say “try not to worry”. I’m on day 8, the worst bit has been the bunged up sinuses which I still have, the cough was awful for 3 days but then almost disappeared. Each person seems to be effected differently by it but do remember that hardly anyone is ending up in intensive care with it, most people in hospital with it contracted it whilst in with something else and have underlying conditions. I know so many people that have had it in the past 2 weeks but only know one person that had to go to hospital and he wasn’t kept in and it was due to a underlying condition.

Things that have helped me….

If you can, sit outside in the garden and get fresh air, I know we have been lucky wit the weather over the last week, getting outside has really helped my recovery.

Drink plenty of water.

Vapour rub on your feet at night (it really does help).

Allow yourself to be ill and rest as much as you can but I found getting up and getting dressed each day made me feel less unwell.

We are CEV and I'm on day 7/8 and my husband is on day 4/5

We have been snotty, muzzy head, brain fog, coughing and very tired. I'm recovering now just with fatigue.
We are both triple jabbed and obese and it's been pretty mild. Not nice but mild as in we didn't need hospital. It was like a bad cold.

Please don't worry, this latest strain seems the mildest we have seen.

You'll have good antibodies to take you through whatever mutates next!

Look at it as a positive.

Thanks for the replies so far 🥰
Would it be oxygen levels dropping that would indicate your need for hospitalisation? I don't know what to look out for.

Years ago I had flu, I was bedridden and wanted to die. The people I know who have had covid say it’s like a bad cold at worse.
The only person I know who died while covid positive , had massive congenital cardiac problems and was never going to be an old man. He was in coronary care every winter with pneumonia.
No one is going to make you feel better, so try and distract yourself from it.

I say this in the kindest possible way, you'll be fine, it's done the rounds of my circle of friends and everyone has been ok with it, just tired and various symptoms but nothing terrible. I had a temp and a cough but was fine after a few days. I was slightly anxious when I realised covid had finally caught up with us but it was fine. Rest up and take paracetamol and you'll be ok in a few days.

Mindymomo · 17/04/2022 17:11

I understand your worrying, we avoided it until last month. I was sure my DH would end up in hospital, he’s 65 and had heart surgery in 2020 and was told if he caught covid, he would most likely end up in hospital. So he tested positive and wasn’t too great so I phoned GP who got him an appointment at the medical assessment unit in our hospital. They checked him over and were completely happy and assured him he would be fine and wouldn’t get any worse or needing hospital treatment. I took this to mean that most people in hospital were either very ill or unvaccinated. All 4 of us here got it and whilst we were all quite bad, we got through it and got better each day, but did need the full 10 days at home.

Moochio · 17/04/2022 17:18

Have you got paracetamol?

ApolloandDaphne · 17/04/2022 18:05

My 81yo DM got it recently. She was a bit worried at the start as she has a heart condition but apart from being snotty and bunged up she has been absolutely fine. If you have got this far since you tested positive I would suggest you are going to be fine.

purplemonkey654 · 17/04/2022 18:07

I'm worried about things like getting a blood clot 😭

You’ll be fine. You’re vaccinated that’s the difference. Also this strain is much milder than the original. I have it at the moment and just feel a bit breathless and tired, no other symptoms not even a temperature.

Get yourself onto Netflix and distract yourself. Reading on here is just feeding the anxiety. Maybe try a mindfulness app.

hopeishere · 17/04/2022 18:13

I'd you've been positive since Monday you're probably over the worst of it by now. Have you been testing to see if you're now negative?

Scandishores222 · 17/04/2022 18:22

I'm CEV and I'm on day 3, feeling pretty awful. The hospital phoned today (I'm eligible for antiviral meds). They make a decision based on oxygen levels and temperature so keep an eye on those.
