How long did COVID symptoms last for you- I’m at 3 weeks and counting

I got Covid at the end of March. I’ve felt rough since. Symptoms have been phlegm, cough, tiredness, skin rash, cold sores on face. I didn’t end up in hospital though. I have had 2 vaccines and 2 boosters and also got antiviral medicine as they wanted me to take it as a precaution for an underlying health condition.
I’ve also felt pretty down and defeated through it. Woken up again this morning bunged up and tired after a full sleep.
Went to GP and she said that getting over it in a week or so is a fabricated myth to try and reduce social anxiety. She said it’s more like 4-6 weeks. Got more antivirals for the cold sores this week.
Has anyone had lingering symptoms that improved and if so how long did it take? I felt like I was getting over my previous condition and it the treatments and now this has made me feel so low.

Everyone is having such a tough time and I totally agree, it seems to affect everyone differently. It is harder, recovery, without support though.

Here’s hoping we all start to get a bit stronger in the next few weeks. If anyone has any tips on what has helped improve, please share. One thing I’ve found is if I blow my nose after a warm shower, even when it feels I have nothing else to blow, it really helps clear some of the bunged up feeling.

5 weeks today and I've finally woken up being able to breathe instead of bunged up sinuses that need blowing out or a hacking cough. So relieved.. never had an illness go on like that, it's usually gone in 2 weeks max.
Hope it fucks off for you soon Smile

Tips for recovery:
Steam is good for anything related to the nose/sinuses or throat/chest.
Gaviscon or omeprazole for acid reflux. Also sleeping slightly propped up in bed.
Most importantly, dont overdo it and accept that recovery includes some setbacks - you feel better for a few days then dip again. This is normal but as long as the general trajectory is up, dont let it worry you.

Ugh I hope you’re feeling better now

it’ll be 4 weeks tomorrow for me, I’m left with feeling tired and a pain under my rib

pastypirate · 25/04/2022 21:15

Can I join? It's been a month for me now. Inflamed sinuses, effing annoying dry cough, night sweats and total exhaustion.

UseHerName · 26/04/2022 19:04

Yes also to the sinuses! What’s that all about?!

I am about five weeks on now and the only symptom I have is that crushing tiredness from time to time. It was really my only symptom after the first week, and it has persisted until now. But it is a lot better than a few weeks ago. Then I felt like I was battling against it all the time, while now it is the odd day/couple of hours. I went home early from work today because I was so tired, but that is the first time in a week that it has prevented me doing what I want.

I'm day 13, still coughing, sore throat, aching, exhausted. I'm cEV so understandable that I'm struggling to shift it, it's worrying though. The worst is first thing in the morning, all the phlegm stuck in my throat and sinuses, can't cough it up, it's just trapped there, it's horrible. Will try the steaming.

I’m on week 3 and am waiting for call back from my gp as my chest has got increasingly worse today, pretty sure I have a chest infection and hoping to catch it early, cough has got worse and chest is crackling occasionally when I cough or/and breath in. Covid is just the gift that keeps giving 😬, yesterday I felt fine, just the occasional cough.

grapewines · 28/04/2022 20:58

I'm at the end of week 2. Still coughing, phlegm, and I'm very tired. Reading this has made me sad but realistic about how long it will likely last. The cough is really getting to me - it just zaps energy.

CorsicaDreaming · 01/05/2022 12:04

I'm day 19, still totally exhausted by it and just sitting around. So frustrating and draining.

Nasty cough and grotty sinuses still not clearing up. Chest and lungs ache. I'm usually very active and busy so finding it really frustrating.

I do have asthma, and need meds for that daily so respiratory type illness always fells me. But I know of many seemingly fully healthy people who've been really unwell with it.

I'm triple vaxxed and really pissed off by the "only a mild cold" mantra.

It feels like a total lie for so many people.

Caught it April 2020. 2 days of fatigue and myalgia, not too bad. Then a week later felt short of breath walking uphill. Lasted a few days. The bunged up nose took a while to disappear. Still have good antibodies now also vaccinated. Had lots of contacts since, worked in London throughout, inc household contacts but haven’t caught it again to my knowledge.

Day 35 and I’d say I’m finally clear!!

Crinklecuts · 07/05/2022 22:19

Day 20 and I now have a chest infection, migraines ( never had migraines in my life) and extreme fatigue.
.
I am 40 and usually work a 50 hour week in the city and exercise 3-5 times per week. BMI 23 and no health problems.

When I was positive I had a cough and was tired so I actually think I feel worse now.

I almost feel like I am imagining this! Like is it real or am I just feeling sorry for myself ? I wonder if I went back to work to early and I am now just totally run down.

Jules912 · 08/05/2022 08:57

I'm now 8 weeks in and fine apart from getting breathless with even moderate exercise but think that's because my fitness is shot to pieces after 2 months or barely being able to do anything.
