Symptoms but testing negative

Hi, so about a week or so ago I started to get a bad cold and sore throat, developed a temperature for a short time, extremely fatigued, nauseous and off food, now the coughing has started and I can’t sleep, sound like a donkey and it’s been hard to breathe at times. I’ve tested negative several days in a row. A family member just came back from hol - all those in their party have covid on return bar family member, but my symptoms started before they returned.

Anyhow, I know other illnesses are available, but I also know it’s possible to have repeated negative tests for various reasons. Has anyone had this and suspected or been told they had covid…. I really don’t want to have it.

It doesn't really matter either way does it? You have a cold virus with various symptoms, it's not going to make you more poorly if it's labelled covid.

Well yes, it does matter if you're CEV and eligible for antivirals. Or if your condition or medication makes you more at risk from becoming seriously ill with Covid.

So much nastiness and ignorance on this thread.

Hi all,
Lateral flow positive today, awaiting confirmation with pcr done this morning. Thank you for all for the support and advice.

(FYI symptoms first started 5-6th April (fatigue, runny nose, sore throat, temp 37.8 briefly), cough and increased sneezing first appeared on 13th April, positive test 15th April)

Hope you feel better soon Op. It makes me depressed to see some of the replies you got, I hate humanity sometimes. People are just nasty. Anyway, don’t want to be negative, sending healing vibes 💐

Interesting, I had a similar timescale and assumed I got a cold then Covid. I did perk up briefly somewhere in the middle though.

Honestly? I’ve been sick for weeks on end coughing my lungs off with some non covid respiratory viral infection. I’m fine now. Also have an autoimmune disease. Sometimes it feels like covid is getting fetishised. It’s almost like it’s not “significant” enough to have another viral infections. There are so many infections more serious than covid. You’re testing negative. It’s not covid. I’ve had cold so much worse than covid.

Robinni · 15/04/2022 21:50

Thank you to all for your best wishes.

@Jules912 it’s been weird I perked up too a week ago (8th) for the afternoon then bombed back down again.

@Letmethinkidontknow please see my update above - I do have covid, tested positive today, so my concerns were valid.

@letmethinkidontknow I’ve actually found your post quite upsetting tbh. I’m not fetishising covid, it has really affected my life very severely in numerous ways and I have felt traumatised due to what happened with my friend in particular who dropped dead suddenly despite hardly any symptoms.

I have felt I needed to be conscientious to protect myself, my family and the wider community.

Several of the people I’ve known to have died/been badly affected ended up that way due to others either not isolating, not following lockdown rules, not getting vaccinated and I feel enough is enough. People shouldn’t be complacent and dismissive.

I’m glad that I know what is making me ill. It gives me the knowledge to protect my family and seek treatment for myself which I have done.

Honestly, it is bad enough being ill without reading absolute manure of a post.

Sorry to hear that hope you're on the mend soon

CircusBaby · 16/04/2022 01:01

If it's any consolation after 3 weeks of negative lft I did one tonight because I'm feeling super rough and it's positive. This is the second time I've had it in 2 years. I was out with my mum yesterday who's 80. So I'm worried about her now! She's triple jabbed so fingers crossed.

Sorry you had some silly comments OP, please don't take them to heart. Some people can't help themselves Thanks

NewYearEveryYear · 16/04/2022 01:07

@Robinni I hope you don't feel too rough!

I tested negative with symptoms for almost a week before finally testing positive.

And for the 'just a cold' spouters ... Maybe it was only a cold for YOU.

But I, as a triple jabbed, healthy, and able bodied, person felt grim for three days. Properly bed-ridden-grim. Took me completely by surprise.

Hi @Robinni I'm CEV and younger, I had covid too. Tested negative despite symptoms for 5 days!! I knew I had it as my DDs had it before me and also tested initially negative for 4-5 days Shock until they tested positive.

Anyway, even though omicron is mild (& this is second covid for me and al triple vaxxed, previous time I was hospitalised) it did affect me, I tested positive with main symptoms lasting (except fever went quickly) for 10 days and overall it took 5 weeks to get over breathlessness and fatigue (my CEV is respiratory). Had a few very tough days over first week. Do the nhs app positive LFT reporting etc and let your GP surgery know as they may also decide to put you on antivirals as some surgeries have pilot project, they didn't catch me early enough so I missed that window.

Hopefully you'll get through it. I'm fine- really rotten first two weeks of it.
Recommend Plenty of rest, drink lots of water and take regular paracetamol / painkillers of you can. Try to Sleep propped up to help with breathing. Also honey and lemon drink for that sore throat!! I ate icecream, cold soup, scrambled eggs, and anything that kind of consistency, but wasn't hungry for a week really.

Hope that helps Smile and good luck! Thanks

Robinni · 16/04/2022 12:05

Thank you all, I’m feeling a bit brighter today, despite coughing until 4am!! Still very fatigued, achey, heavy pressure in chest and the coughing… DH and DS decamped 13th and they’re staying clear a while longer until I get negative tests again. They are leaving me some choc and a Chinese over tomorrow so hopefully my appetite improves!!
Happy Easter to you all and thank you for being so kind, all advice taken on board.

I had the same but my 3dc tested positive and I tested negative. We all had exactly the same symptoms

I also think it depends on the type of lat flow too. Interestingly my dd3 tested positive on one lat flow and then tested negative on another type (brand maybe)
