Migraine relief

Morning all,

I'm about 9/10 days into COVID and last night came down with a migraine. I get regular headaches quite a lot (including in the last week) but the pain and nausea last night was really strong and quite different. Woke up today and it's still pretty painful, now more clearly concentrated on one eye. Has anyone found a way to take the edge off this with regular stuff at home? We only really have paracetamol (didn't seem to do much last night) and a cold and flu remedy which combines paracetamol with some other things? I'm not relishing the idea of spending a day staring at a computer for work in a moment! Thank you.

I had a migraine with covid and it vile, you have my sympathy op.

I took paracetamol and Ibuprofen, I also got one of those bag things and put water and ice inside and put it on my forehead, and over my eyes (maybe a cold flannel if you've not got one). I get regular migraine and they are game changers

You need ibuprofen. Take it regularly with paracetamol.

Hi - you have my sympathies. I know this doesn't help you know (but maybe in the future) but I now take prescribed sumatriptin for my migraines which I take on early onset.

But before these I'd take some codeine. Over the counter co-codomol. There are also some migraleve tablets which I took for a while. Within a box there are two types of tablet, one of them includes an anti-nausea medication. Obviously don't know you medical history or any other medication you take so discuss with pharmacist/GP on phone? Can anyone go out for you to chemist?

Hope you feel better very soon.

Pink migraleive has an anti-nausea component. It's co codamol plus the antiemetic. Really helps takes the edge off.

Also people swear blind by red coke. Something to do with constricting blood vessels, I'm never sure how it works, but it does seem to help.

That and sleeping it off.

MoreKidsThanHotDinners · 13/04/2022 08:02

I swear by couple of aspirin in full sugar ( red) coke.
And white tiger balm rubbed on forehead.
Mate you have my sympathies ❤️ sending hugs 🤗 xx

I got migraine as you describe from all 3 of tye vaccinations. Only sumatripan from the GP would touch them

userxx · 13/04/2022 08:08

2x 400mg of ibuprofen.

fungibletoken · 13/04/2022 08:11

Ah you're all wonderful Flowers thank you! We might have some old ibuprofen lurking somewhere (had a prescription for sumatriptan ages ago darn it!), and otherwise I'll see if I'm still testing positive later to pick up one of your other suggestions. COVID is a bastard isn't it!

3xaspirin (900mg total) with a can of full sugar coke, followed by a nap.

Doctor recommended this to me and told me not to tell anyone because he was meant to be selling me triptans.

Doesn't always work, but worth a go.

And a day off work..? Flowers

userxx · 13/04/2022 08:55

I have a nasal spray that works like a dream, It's prescription only. Migraines are the pits.

JS87 · 13/04/2022 09:00

Sumatriptan works best. You can buy over counter from a chemist. Failing that definitely aspirin or ibuprofen with red coke. I’d Chuck some paracetamol in too for good measure. Ginger also helps. 1/8 teaspoon at least.
