3YO DS unwell with covid

My DS tested positive on Sunday but hasn't really been himself since Fri evening. Bad cough, cold symptoms etc but seemed ok in himself. Went off his food on Sunday and then Monday afternoon was sick and it's all just gone downhill from there.

He was up numerous times in the night being sick and up until 2PM today couldn't even keep water down. We've had a good stretch from 2PM to just now where he has been drinking and seeming a bit more himself so I was hoping were getting through the worst of it. He's just woke up and been sick again 😞 it's just bile and phlem as he hasn't eaten for 2 days now. He had a raised temp yesterday but it has been normal today.

Has anyone elses kids been affected like this? It's really hit him hard which has caught me off guard as I thought kids generally don't seem as affected by it as adults.

It’s a bit of myth that children don’t get ill or symptomatic from covid. It’s a smaller number than adults maybe but some do suffer from illness just like adults do. It affects us all differently.
If you feel your son is becoming dehydrated. I would ring 111/see a doctor.

My kids (albeit teens not toddlers) have felt quite poorly with it.

Pickandmix41 · 12/04/2022 20:47

He drank a good amount this PM which I don't feel has all come back up and he has been to the toilet a few times today but it is a worry if it carries on. If it's still going on in the morning I'll ring 111. Just hate seeing him so poorly.

So sorry your DS is feeling poorly, could it be possible that he also has a bug on top of covid? There are masses of vomiting bugs going around at the moment...

As PP said keep an eye on hydration. You can actually give children the dehydration sachets (check the packaging).

Hope things start to improve for you all.

Awwww... Try some homeopathic arsen alb 30. Even if you don't believe in it... Worth a go good remedy for his symptoms xx

I too wonder if he might have a vomiting bug as well? Either way, he’ll bounce back soon enough. It’s horrible when they are poorly though. Sickness really floors them in my opinion.

DD2 ended up in hospital following a stomach bug last summer. She just couldn’t stop vomiting for 24 hours & when that stopped, she’s flatly refused to drink 😫 I was as surprised how little water the nurses were trying in hospital. They literally said she needed a teaspoon or 2.5ml syringe every 10 minutes. If she could keep that down, she’d rehydrate. We had to try do this for 2 hours.. DD unfortunately just spat it out, so we ended up with a feeding tube down her nose 🥴 once she was more hydrated & the tube removed, they gave us crisps & said we needed to get some more salt down her.

Just keep an eye on hydration.. it’s fab he was drinking earlier today. Even though he’s vomited again, he’ll have rehydrated himself for a few hours. Keep trying the small amounts, regularly. If he really isn’t getting liquid in him, don’t hesitate to speak to a doctor!

Yes I suppose it is possible he has a bug aswell, I hadn't thought of that! Hopefully he'll have a more settled night than last night 🤞

You’ll probably soon find out if it’s covid or a bug.. if it’s a bug, the household will all soon be vomiting too 🙈 covid, while you might catch covid, it’s unlikely it’ll cause vomiting for everyone!

Bless him. Same time frame as my 3 year old (positive test Sunday morning) but she was lethargic Saturday and Sunday but has perked up since and I think her cough is improving. We've not had any vomiting but she had diarrhea this afternoon.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 12/04/2022 22:02

Had this with two of mine with covid. Hope he feels better soon.

Bati · 12/04/2022 22:24

Vomiting can very much be part of covid.
Diarrhea is also part of covid too, so don't be surprised if this kicks in.
Keep on top of calpol not just for temperature but for pain as he might have a bad headache and his body might be aching.
Offer him plenty of fluids.
If your concerned, phone 111
Hope he is better soon x

We had this with dd. It turned out to be mumps, which was a surprise because she’d had the mmr. I couldn’t understand why she was so sick and not really recovering - it was because it was something else, I too had heard about children vomiting with covid, but she was like your son and couldn’t hold down water. The swollen face came later than the vomiting.
