Hi

I asked this on a current post, but thought easier to start my own.

What is the current guidance? The way I've read it is - 5 days isolation for adults, 3 for children, longer if still feeling unwell. Is that it?

DH has tested positive, we've told a few people for various reasons, and all but one commented "oh I hope you aren't waiting too long for a negative!!"

However, I didnt think that was a thing anymore?

DH has no intention of not isolating for a minimum of 5 days. He's isolating from the rest of us too. Depending on how he's feeling, we're hoping he'll make an escape after 5 days - we have plans that we'd like to make. However, should he also be testing too?

All the people I know that currently have covid are doing tests on days 5 and 6 and if negative they will leave isolation. They are going for walks staying away from everyone, although my neighbours have not been out for 11 days, but they can work from home.

Purpleroseas · 11/04/2022 20:43

Are we still meant to be doing tests? Are we meant to buy tests just to see when we're no longer positive?

Can't we just use our common sense and go out when we feel well?!

Rememberallball · 11/04/2022 20:43

Adults can stop voluntary isolation if they have 2 negative lateral flow tests at least 24 hours apart no earlier than days 5&6. Children only have to isolate for 3 days before testing on days 4&5. If still positive and symptomatic then you continue to isolate till day 10

Purpleroseas · 11/04/2022 20:45

I thought we don't need to test anymore...?

@Rememberallball , have you copied that from somewhere? If so, is there any chance you could post a link please?

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 21:52

Chewbecca · 11/04/2022 21:56
@Chewbecca i put my positive in the app and it gave me 10 days ?? Its all a mess
Are you in Scotland?

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 21:59

@Chewbecca no england

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 22:01

I spoke to track and trace who have told me 2 different things as well
The details online now seem to be saying from test date not symptoms like it used to , its all mixed messages

Chewbecca · 11/04/2022 22:04

Weird!

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 22:07

@Chewbecca it says it says take extra care and protect others and given me 10 days from the positive test date not taken info account I had symptoms for couple days before
I think I will just delete the app as its clearly a waste of time

Sausagerollfiend · 11/04/2022 22:28

There is no requirement to test yourself anymore to leave the house.

Here are the current guidelines: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/when-to-self-isolate-and-what-to-do/

My dd tested positive last Monday. She was required to stay off school for 3 days. As she had no temperature and felt well by the Friday, she went back to school. School told me it was my judgement whether she was well, no mention of lfts.

I currently have covid, day 4. I have stayed at home but have been on a few walks round our local wood. I've stayed away from others. I am not obliged to stay home 100% and the guidance even gives advice if I do leave home during the 5 days (wear mask etc).

So, no you do not need to keep checking whether you are negative on a lft, just be home as much as you can for 5 days then that's it (there are some exceptions, see the link above).

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 23:00

@Sausagerollfiend but how do you know if your meeting someone who is vulnerable?
You can't always tell , so im reading guidance of stay away from vulnerable people and crowded indoor places etc for 10 days

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 23:01

@Sausagerollfiend and why the change to from day after you did the test , that was never the case before
They are sending out mixed messages

worriedatthistime · 11/04/2022 23:05

Also i was due to be at drs twice this week and they cancelled todays appt but said if i test negative day 5/6 then I can go to next appt
If I don't test negative i will have to be treated under special circumstances
I have to have the treatment it can't be missed again

It’s what we’ve been advised but that may be because I’m CEV and at higher risk.

The children's one is what we’ve been told by the nursery that our local council are recommending. As it happens, T2 who tested positive first is much better and, while he no longer has a temperature, he still has the other symptoms of Covid he started with; T1 only tested positive on Monday and is spiking impressive temperatures (currently 39.9c) so we wouldn’t be testing him again yet but will need to get 2 negative results before they’re allowed back at nursery.

Currently I’m the most unwell of the lot of us with headache that’s not being relieved with over the counter pain killers; aching joints, neck and chest/rib cage; a es cough and sinus issues. I’m day 2/3 now having tested positive on Sunday and will be testing daily from Thursday as I’m supposed to be having surgery at the end of next week and need to be negative for them to not consider cancelling the op. I’m also currently waiting to hear back from a local team as to whether I’ll be offered antiviral/antibody treatment because of the CEV status.

Watapalava · 12/04/2022 07:08

Testing for adults is no longer advised at all unless in one of the high risk groups eligible for antivirals or those working in nhs with high risk patients. Noone else is supposed to be testing. It actually says advised not to on the nhs/gov website.

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 07:29

@Watapalava thats not strictly true though and if you call 119 , free testing has stopped
But i had to go drs this week , I have tp test not covid I could go , covid I can't

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 07:32

@Rememberallball I was told same by 119 and not cev
So many mixed messages

worriedatthistime · 12/04/2022 07:36

@Watapalava its all a mess , they have not thought this through
Thing is you don't test thats fine but I am not stating home with every cold or little symptom of the now huge list I have for 5 days every time , when a simple test can give me a better idea
As PP some places of work : nursery are still asking for tests , despite what goverment said
And 119 told me to do test and release day 5/6 as well
The app says isolate for 10 days whilst the guidelines say 5
People will contunue to test whilst they still have free tests etc
I also visit my cev friend so I will continue to test while cases are so high when I see her

Sillymummies123 · 12/04/2022 07:37

The government has basically adopted a 'its too costly to enforce isolation, so let's be vague and hope many still do it' approach. As a 30 year old who currently has covid and was boosted in December, I can tell you it's fucking horrible. Reminds me painfully of the time I have influenza a few Xmas's ago. If I left the house, I would have the potential to kill someone. Its day 6 today but I'm still blowing hot on the LFTs so also don't feel comfortable going out... its just morally repugnant to contribute to a virus with the severity of the flu, but a much higher rate of circulation.

Purpleroseas · 12/04/2022 07:42

Where does it state that we have to stay at home with a cold Confused?
