This is probably covid right?

DH tested positive on Wednesday. DD 15 months started symptoms the same day, we haven’t tested her because she’s still traumatised from the one time we had to. She had covid in October when I had it, this is the first time for my DH.

We had visited his family on Saturday, they have since tested positive. Apparently one family member had ‘cold’ symptoms when we visited but negative lateral flow so assumed it wasn’t covid- went on to test positive towards the end of symptoms.

I have a very sore throat and runny nose since yesterday- feels like a cold, tbh I can’t remember what I felt like when I had it before well enough to compare! I’m thrown by it as I don’t have a fever or headache etc. Also my DD has a bad cough which seems worse than the last time.

Anyone else taken several days to test positive? I’ve got a tricky week at work next week and no idea how to navigate it at the moment! Technically I know I can do whatever now but it’s not that simple in real life. We’ve got a few lateral flows left so I’m wondering if I should keep checking over the next few days.

I know there are colds going around too but this seems like a very odd coincidence if it’s not covid.

Probably should have actually said that my lateral flows today and yesterday were negative!

I've got covid at the moment. I started with a sore throat and a runny nose. I did get a headache and had a couple of waves of a moderately high temp but nothing major. I didn't test pos an lft until day 3 - and this seems pretty common.

I would assume that you've got it.

Nejnej · 09/04/2022 09:54

We caught COVID from a gathering with friends last weekend. The wife of the guy who tested positive first was one of the last to get a positive result, and some people took a few days to swab positive.
I'd say it's almost certainly COVID!

Eve · 09/04/2022 09:56

According to recent Zoe email runny nose is main symptom of Omicron at moment.

hupfpferd · 09/04/2022 10:05

Yea sounds exactly like my recent Covid. Symptoms started Friday and I didn't get a faint positive until Monday. Seems day 3 of symptoms is normal now.

Never really got the headache or high temp but symptoms did get worse and worse. Now 3 weeks later and I'm still getting a sore throat and coughing.

hupfpferd · 09/04/2022 10:06

Oh and the test the next day was bright positive and still was on day 10.

worriedatthistime · 09/04/2022 11:05

Im in simalr position
Dh tested positive tues i have a very slight cough and dry horsey throat ( not sore ) but testing negative on LFT
I have work and things next week as well as easter and also have to go to GP 3 times a week at moment, Im so annoyed they have taken away the PCR as I had covid in jan and never tested positive on a lft then only pcr
Im not going anywhere all weekend but have to go to the drs

cinnamonbiscuit · 09/04/2022 11:59

@worriedatthistime it’s difficult isn’t it- I’ve got lots of work next week, some of which I’ve been preparing for for months- no idea what to do about any of it. DH has just woken up on day 4 of covid feeling worse than yesterday. I hope you manage to get to the GP ok

Thanks everyone- I guess it is common then for this to happen. It’s just hard to know what to do now that we have to decide for ourselves. A colleague of mine is in his 60s and doesn’t think he’s had it and is very cautious, so it will be a bit awkward if I go in when I’m 90% sure this is covidConfused

I was reading something (research based not daily mail!) that suggested that if you're fully vaxxed your immune system is primed and you become symptomatic faster than your viral load getting to the level where you test positive.

Therefore if you are vaxxed id expect you to test positive in the few days.

cinnamonbiscuit · 09/04/2022 13:55

@nodogz interesting! I’ll probably test for the next few days in that case.

Not necessarily. DC2 tested positive Tuesday. Rest of us negative, despite me having heavy cold symptoms. We have all had it before, both me and DH fully vaccinated, poor DC2 just unlucky.

chocolateisavegetable · 09/04/2022 18:12

Started to feel a bit unwell Monday evening. Tuesday I was definitely unwell so did an LFT which was negative. Wednesday I was much worse so did another LFT which was negative. Thursday I didn't bother doing a test, but did another one Friday (as was due to see an elderly family member at the weekend) and the test was very clearly positive. Am fully vaxxed, so it's interesting to see what nodogz said.

worriedatthistime · 09/04/2022 21:53

Still testing negative today but really really unwell , ache all over and high temo and shaking, bit of a cough
Dh is currently positive
I had c

worriedatthistime · 09/04/2022 21:56

I had covid just under 2 months ago with minimal symptoms
This time feel awful
Maybe a coincidence and ai have another virus but I am mimicking dh synptoms
Also i have a wound that was infected a few weeks ago and i had antibiotics so im keeping eye on that , although for now that seems same as another infectjon could also make me feel ill
But have cough and bunged up now and throat husky / scratchy
But i feel totally rotten

Neverreturntoathread · 09/04/2022 21:57

All my LFTs were negative but a PCR positive 🤷‍♀️ and I like you was pretty sure I had it because family did.

Just assume is covid.

ReadyToMoveIt · 09/04/2022 22:01

Just as we’re coming into hay fever season where I have a runny nose for 4 months solid Grin

This is how I've been. I had covid end of Feb and I tested positive again last Sunday. First time I was just extremely tired. This time I have been awful, not being able to leave the bed for 3 days, and still feeling awful nearly a week later!

That’s really interesting. I’m unvaccinated and got a positive lateral flow when I tested an hour after I first got sneezing symptoms. Was a very dark line for 10 days.
ReadyToMoveIt · 09/04/2022 22:09

I’m triple vaxxed and tested positive as soon as my symptoms appeared.

Adarajames · 09/04/2022 22:45

I’ve lived with my parents who were positive and been in contact with other who have then tested positive (different time to my parents) and have not been positive at any point, despite having cold type symptoms / really bad headache for about a week a week after my parents were ill. Was testing twice daily (work reasons) and even did pcr tests, but all still negative; so it could be a cold with similar symptoms to omicron, or maybe some people don’t test positive despite having almost certainly covid symptoms?? All very uncertain!

worriedatthistime · 09/04/2022 23:59

Just done another LFT and got a strong positive
So triple jabbed and now had twice in a couple months
So immunity doesn't seem to last long , now expecting both ds to get it as two of us now in the house snd I had been downstairs , isolating Away from dh it hasn't helped us though

cinnamonbiscuit · 10/04/2022 11:41

@worriedatthistime oh dear- well at least you know what it is now! There’s something annoying about negative lateral flows when you’re pretty sure you have it. I find that some people don’t take you seriously unless you’ve tested positive, even though it’s obviously definitely possible to be more ill with something else! I hope you feel better very soon Flowers

Back in October when I had covid the first time, everyone at my work had positive lateral flows but negative pcrs because of the Wolverhampton lab issues. There was a lot of ‘oh well lateral flows aren’t reliable so they must be picking up some other bug’ going around. Now this time I’m not testing positive on lateral flows and despite there being covid in the house I’m getting ‘oh well if the lateral flow is negative it can’t be covid’ 🤦‍♀️

Took me 4 days to get a positive, ds 3 days and dh 4 days
