Anyone never tested positive but convinced they have had it ?

We've all been unwell since Monday.DH and DS have bad coughing and headaches, I'm feeling generally shattered and headachey. A nephew that visited with friends last weekend is exactly the same, as are his pals.

But we're all still testing negative on LFTs.DH and I both went for PCRs yesterday- also negative. Pretty sure it is covid as symptoms are identical to neighbours who tested positive.

So is it not covid or we may test positive soon ?

@Perihelion - yes I'm in Edinburgh, everyone I know either has covid or had it recently, annoyingly most folks only finding out they had it by doing a LFT rather than feeling unwell.
I've not heard of a mystery just like covid illness doing the rounds though.

I had covid last week, DD has now come down with strong symptoms of head cold, dreadful sore throat, nausea, rivers of snot, earache. Consistently testing negative every day since her symptoms started 3 days ago.

DH and DS2 were both ill a couple of weeks ago. Aching, fever, tired, sneezing, coughing, sore throat.
10 in DS' class off with covid and 8 of DH's close colleagues positive at the same time.
DH and DS both tested negative all the way through.
My friends DH was the same but he was home ill for 5 days but negative then tested positive three days later once he was feeling better.

Yes. My GP is convinced I have long Covid. I had a nasty cold and chest infection in February but had a negative pcr. I’ve been unable to breathe properly since and have been diagnosed with asthma.

Rookiemere I was sitting opposite someone at work who went off with Covid, so find it hard to believe this is something else.

Well I feel too unwell to go to the theatre tomorrow anyway so we've all been effectively isolating since Monday anyway, apart from giving the dog very short walks based on whoever is feeling least worst at that point in time ( rookiedog is very miffed about this).

So ironic as this week was my first birthday after lockdown and was so looking forward to our dinner out which I'd booked in November to get a good slot. Still at least we had no holiday plans because DS doing Nat5s.

Yes - I think I’ve had it twice - once in first lockdown so no testing available and second more recently and was negative but definite covid symptoms though both LFT and antibody tests were negative so apparently it was not it….

My partner and I both currently have identical symptoms, having been exposed to someone with covid late last week. I've been testing positive since Sunday when we both first started coughing, he's been negative until today when there was such a faint line that we thought we might be imagining it...

PJHarvey · 14/04/2022 00:42

Partner has been sick since Friday and tested positive on Sunday night. I have mostly the same symptoms but milder, and I keep testing negative. Can't get a PCR where I live, so it's frustrating as I reckon I must have it.

I did think this, yes, until I had it this week. When you've had it, it becomes very obvious. Twice, however, upon very close exposure to covid, I've had fever etc for etc for 48 hours, but I think that's just the immune systems.vaccinated response kicking the viruses ass, not actually having it

Usedtobeme20 · 14/04/2022 03:17

Isn't it - if you're testing negative via lft then you're not contagious? You could have it but if you're vaccinated then your immune system could be working like mad to stop the virus replicating to the point where you don't become contagious to others.

I think it's something to do with 'viral load'.

There's an incubation period for all viruses but if your vaccinated your body could just be staying on top of it, especially if you had a small viral load when catching it.

Recently my baby and I were out with friends, the next day my friend text to say she had covid. We weren't sitting near her but we were all in the same room, so I braced myself. 3 days later my unvaccinated baby started showing symptoms and a strong positive LFT. I was also experiencing symptoms but testing negative. Both had a PCR - baby was positive. I was negative.

Baby is unwell and I'm obviously caring for her, not giving a crap about myself as she's laid in my arms coughing and sneezing all over my face.

3 days later I am strong positive.

Omicron has a fast incubation time. My arm chair theory (I.e no credibility to it at all!) Is that we both were exposed to the virus from my friend. My vaccine worked though and at the time my unvaccinated baby came down with it my vaccine was standing strong but I still felt ropey because my immune system was still launching an attack. However, being exposed to such a huge and prolonged viral load in my face via my baby the virus took over, my immune system couldn't cope, the virus started to replicate and I came down with covid (i.e a breakthrough infection) where I tested positive.

That's my theory! I definitely had symptoms when my baby started with it but I felt better the following day, but then I properly came down with it.

Just an anecdotal theory based on some reading around the topic. I'm no doctor or scientist!
