Is it likely to get worse again after day 5?

Creams0da · 06/04/2022 00:58

So I'm on day 5 and feeling much better - was only ill for two days with pretty standard, mild cold symptoms. But I keep reading about this horrible second wave of the illness which arrives after a week or so. Have many people experienced this? Is it common?

Nearly everyone I know has had it recently- two had this resurgence on day 5. As I’m on day 4 myself with a mild cold plus fatigue , I’m hoping it’s rare !

Mindymomo · 06/04/2022 08:00

All 4 of us here had covid recently, all had a variety of symptoms, but we all got better over time, some symptoms like headache and coughing took a bit longer to go, but generally the first few days were the worst.

Dammitthisisshit · 06/04/2022 08:03

I was given an antibody infusion and got stronger after that, but DH got worse, it was more tiredness though rather than a return of the Covid headache.

Popuptent · 06/04/2022 10:34

I'm on Day 10 and like you, I was only ill for a couple of days with a cough and tiredness. However, I am still stuck in bed with tiredness. I have very little energy. I'm still testing positive but it's a faint line.

MichaelAndEagle · 06/04/2022 10:36

I'm on day 9. Couple of ropey days like you then nothing else at all. Felt 100% normal since day 4 I'd say.

SMabbutt · 06/04/2022 11:14

I'm currently getting over it. Tested positive on 28 March and felt quite a bit better on 02 and 03 April. Felt awful on 4 April and in the evening went downhill with nausea and diarrhoea. Totally wiped out yesterday with headache and cough recurring. A bit better today but still nauseous and my brain can't seem to focus. I've had to retype this several times.

I hadn't heard about a 2nd wave with it, but in a way it's a relief to know I'm not the only one experiencing it.

SummerySumner · 06/04/2022 12:22

Day 8 here. Haven’t experienced the second wave myself but still living in fear of it!

Bluebellfae · 06/04/2022 14:42

Day 9 feeling ok now but still testing strong positive hopefully no going back downhill now

Creams0da · 06/04/2022 15:54

Hope you're all feeling 100% soon Flowers

@SMabbutt It's definitely a thing, take it easy!

I’m say 11 and back I bed with eyes that I can barely open

I tested negative since day 5 and thought I’d for over it quickly

I also can’t really eat anything and haven’t eaten a full meal in a week

FairyCakeSprinkles · 06/04/2022 19:17

I am day 11 now. Mild symptoms last week, felt completely better by day 4. On day 9 I developed a sore throat and a bit of a cough. Again, all very mild (no time off work needed at all) but odd given I'd felt better for 5 days.

And yes, I'm tired. That's been my main symptom throughout.

Responsiveroo · 06/04/2022 19:19

Are you all first time having it?
I’ve still not had it and starting to feel like a minority!

Joolsin · 06/04/2022 19:23

I had minimal symptoms on day 1 (bit of a headache, bit of a sore throat) and nothing more. No tiredness. Tested negative on day 9 and back to work, nothing since

DontKeepTheFaith · 06/04/2022 19:31

Oh god, I hope I don’t get a second wave. I’m only on day one but at the moment it just seems like a heavy cold with a cough and I would probably have gone to work except it’s COVID.

I’m hoping to work from home from tomorrow and don’t want to get worse before I get better. Maybe I’m being naive🤷‍♀️

Spearpeas · 06/04/2022 19:37

I had it a couple of weeks ago. This morning, I work up with a really nasty sore throat. It does feel like a second wave.

(This is my first time of catching it).

First time here. Me and DP live in London and are the only people we know who hadn't had it yet, except for DPs 90yo nan who has been pretty much housebound for the past year waiting for a hip op. Also my mum who is agoraphobic and hasn't been anywhere except local Sainsbury's and the doctors' surgery for the past 10 years!

I felt like I'd started to get over it around day 7 then went downhill day 8 onwards.

Burning tongue and hands and feet, lost taste, extremely fatigued and brain fogged. A friend said it's around then that most people get admitted to hospital (if not vaccinated or v vulnerable.)

Brain fog and fatigue lasted another 2-3 weeks, as did awful insomnia. I couldn't work . But I wasn't really myself at all for a long while. I feel it messed up my hormones (I'm in peri menopause, started hrt a few months ago) so can't work out when I got better from covid and crazy peri shit took over. Not quite 3 months yet and speaking to Gp again soon as still not great. Just not sure why!

sonjadog · 06/04/2022 21:16

I haven't had a "second wave" of it, neither has anyone I know who has had it in the last couple of weeks. Strangely enough, after avoiding it for the last two years, myself and five of my friends got it about two weeks ago. We all live in completely different parts of the country, so we didn't infect each other!

I had much the same symptoms as you. The only longer term thing I have noticed is that I got tired easily for about a week after I got better. Now I feel completely fine again.

ReadyToMoveIt · 06/04/2022 21:17

No, I was ill for 3 days then felt much better. No resurgence. Same for all my family, except the DC were only ill for 24 hours.

Silverbirch2 · 06/04/2022 21:22

Day 5 (second time) I feel alot better than last time but I'm still shattered and a bit of cold symptoms. Back to work tomorrow. Only teacher across 4 classes as all the others have covid!

It's like the latest strain has evolved purely to clean up all the people it has missed before. Disturbingly clever really. I was on a work call today with 12 people from across the country; Leeds, Reading, Bristol, London. Six of us had active Covid. And two other people couldn't make the call because they were off sick with it. All first time infections.

None of my family got worse again. Though none of else felt too bad at the beginning either.

'It's like the latest strain has evolved purely to clean up all the people it has missed before. Disturbingly clever really.' I'm not sure if it's that as lots have been reinfected. I think that the level of transmission coupled with not even the most basic of health measures, make it exceptionally hard to avoid. It's gone from a night catch to pretty certain to catch.
