Covid positive & medical appointments

Hi all, just looking for a little advice.

I caught covid last week and have been isolating since the result. In not so perfect timing I have a medical appointment at the end of this week which I've been waiting for for some time (on what will be day 8).

I can't get through to the clinic to find what their rules are (I'll keep trying obviously!). I know the general rules say no need to isolate, but obviously I'm not about to breeze into any clinic covid positive. I'm just wondering if anyone who works in a medical setting can advise as a general rule of thumb if most places are advising 2 days of clear LFT's after day 5, or no appointments within 10 days of infection?

Obviously I'll keep trying the clinic to find out, but I'd be really grateful if anyone can give a steer in the meantime.

I'm on day 5 positive, was meant to have a scan on what will be day 9, hospital doesnt want me anywhere near! They said they will send another appointment but I need to be 2 weeks after negative test before I can go. I doubt they will want you there, they don't want any risk of passing covid to staff.

Keep trying to call, is it something they could manage virtually?

Our staff rules are two negative lateral flows on or after day 5 and 6 or one negative after day 10.

If appointment can’t be virtually we would delay as too risky with vulnerable patients around and the possibility of infecting lots of staff at once who will then not be able to attend work.

Hope you get sorted Flowers

our surgery wouldn’t want you to come in with a positive result and would request that you had 2 consecutive negative results before attending.

LaNozzeDiFigaro · 05/04/2022 07:05

The won't want you there. I had to cancel my smear test. Frustrating if you can't get through to them to let them know.

Troublesometooth · 05/04/2022 07:06

Most people will be attending appointments with no knowledge of being covid positive as there is no testing anymore.

Since you do know I would do the right thing morally and rearrange the appointment. But many others wouldn’t.

The Government guidance for isolation changed earlier this week (for adults, five days starting the day after the positive test), however that is unlikely to be the case for hospital policy. Wishing you well, OP.

A friend had a CT scan booked for what was her Day 8, but was still testing strongly positive then (first negative test on Day 11, although she felt back to normal from day 5). The hospital told her not to come bur rescheduled her for 7 days later.

I cancelled my DH’s hospital appointment, which would have been day 8 and still testing positive, it took 20 minutes to get to talk to someone, who said to email and they would reschedule appointment. Got another appointment emailed over, received this 5 days later, but then received a letter saying they were sorry he didn’t turn up to his appointment. It’s difficult to know what to do, if staff can go in after negative day 5 and 6, then patients should be able to as well, especially if they have no symptoms.

Thanks all, I finally managed to get through to them. I still have symptoms and am testing positive so the appointment is cancelled. After a little pleading I've been rebooked again for 2 weeks time thankfully. I don't envy people booking in appointments at the moment, it must be a nightmare with lots of cancellations!
