Son positive, chances of passing on?

Just that really, my 11 year old tested positive Friday evening. My husband was positive during first lockdown and I never caught it from him. Aware this new variant spreads more. Have given him cuddles and not isolated him as let’s face it is he 11. We are in Scotland so isolation rules apply here. Am self employed so thinking ahead. For those who have caught the virus from household contact how long did it take to go positive? I tested negative this morning but not sure if that’s too soon to hope I have not caught it for first time

Tested nuclear positive on Thursday night and DH tested positive Sunday morning. We had been isolating from each other / 😷 if in each other's company. ❤️

I think it’s quite random. My 6 year old had it before Christmas so obviously lots of close contact with her and no one else in the household caught it.

Passthebubbly · 04/04/2022 01:15

It is so random isn’t it. Back at the start in 2020 when dh had it I fully expected me and kids would get it too but we never did.
With this variant dh has moved out for a week as can’t afford to catch it as we are self employed so I am here with the kids. Just no idea with this variant how quickly it transfers and when I can deem myself “safe”. Realise many non Scot’s may read this but where I am we still have to isolate if positive. If am here pretty much isolating with my lad anyway but getting worried if I could potentially test positive in say 5 days I am in this for a good while. So yeah basic question is how fast or late did you test positive as a close contact?

Dd got it and on the day she was negative dh got it. So far I’ve been ok and we’re trying to isolate as much as possible.

My adult DD who lives with me had it 3 weeks ago, I didn't catch it and neither did her BF who also lives here and shares a bed wit her, , my eldest DS had it last week, his GF didn't catch it, but she made him sleep in the spare room and kept her distance and then I spent a weekend with my other DS fiancé in London, share a room and attended a venue (Mamamia where there is singing by the audience without masks etc) she caught COVID, I did not. So it appears its not 100% you will catch it just because its the extra transmissible variant :)

I had covid 2 weeks ago! My boy caught it from me on my Day 4/5? Tested positive on my Day 6. I still tested positive up until Day 9. We didn't isolate from each other in the house as i was on my own and still had school runs to do. Surprised only half my house caught it but that's got to be a good thing too

DH and DS1 tested positive Thursday, DS2 the next day, but it took 4 days for myself to get a positive result. I had the same symptoms as the others, so expected to test positive at some time.

Jules912 · 04/04/2022 09:10

In January none of us caught it from DD, no isolating from her as she's 6.
Mid-March DS got symptoms on the Wednesday, DH was positive on the Saturday, me on the Sunday and DD never got it.
Both me and DH triple vaccinated if it makes a difference.

SummerySumner · 04/04/2022 17:42

Impossible to say.

I have a friend who’s child has had it twice, nobody else caught it either time.

They had a visitor who was positive, symptoms and a positive 4 days later. Partner was negative for 5 days and then went positive so missed the initial visitor infection.

My husband had it and it took 2 weeks for me to feel ill and test positive. I hadn't tested though until I had symptoms.
MerchSwyddEfrog · 04/04/2022 21:22

It 2 days from my dd showing symptoms to me testing positive. I was sleeping with her and cleaning up her vomit. My dh and ds didn’t catch it, mainly because I wore a FFP2 mask when in the same room and we tried to keeps 2 metres distant. I also stopped using the main bathroom and moved into the spare room.

HesGotHisTrombole · 04/04/2022 21:25

DS is 10 and was positive 2 weeks ago and slept in my bed, breathed on me, coughed on me , kissed me for 10 days and I didn’t get it 🤷‍♀️

Passthebubbly · 04/04/2022 21:50

It’s crazy how random it is. I have felt invincible not catching it over that last 2 years. Well we will see lots of positive stories on here so perhaps my lucky streak will remain
