Struggling to breath and chest pain

Tealember · 02/04/2022 14:51

Just wondered if anyone had similar symptoms and how long they lasted?

3 days agos I started with heartburn type symptoms (never had it before). Basically a constant burning in my chest and I can't eat because it hurts too much (feels I've something stuck). This has now progressed to a constant chest pain and pressure in my chest.
Ive only tested positive today, so assuming it's all Covid related.

I was just wondering how long symptoms lasted? I'm struggling and it's so painful and I can't sleep either. Pain killers don't work, I've been taking omeprazole and gaviscon but neither help at all.

I'm on day 4 of symptoms but day 1 of positive test. Also have headaches and sniffles, dizziness but the chest pain is awful.

Have you got or can you get a pulse oximeter? Think they're about £20 on amazon. Sounds like you could do with keeping an eye on your oxygen sats. If you are worried though call 111 and get checked over

BluebellsGreenbells · 02/04/2022 14:55

I think you need to make a phone call.

Chemist have the odometers of you can get someone to fetch you one.

unim · 02/04/2022 15:28

I would call 111 and ask for advice, that sounds unusual. Chest pain is definitely a good reason to get checked out by a medical professional!

It might not be Covid related, it doesn't sound totally typical.

SparklingLime · 02/04/2022 15:33

Agree call 111. This thread is helpful: twitter.com/danielgoyal/status/1499839766979923970?s=21

Lubeyboobyalt · 02/04/2022 15:36

done proning help at all? Laying or leaning more on your front

I had a bad asthma episode once and had to prone a lot while waiting for my various treatments to work (steroids and inhalers nebuliser)

I would also suggest checking your oxygen with an oximeter

neveroutofthekitchen · 02/04/2022 15:39

some phones can do blood oxygen eg my Samsung has it in the samsung health app

FixTheBone · 02/04/2022 15:41

I'd ring 111.

You don't give any details age etc, but those symptoms could be anything from indigestion all the way through to a heartattack or dissecting aneurysm.

Any other symptoms? Pain radiating to arm, jaw or through tk the back? clammyness, sweating or nausea or vomiting?

111 will have a triage tool that at least will. Exclude important conditions. If for whatever reason they reccommend getting checked out in ED, bring a charger and supplies.

Tealember · 02/04/2022 16:36

Thank you for all the suggestions. I have Amazon prime and will order an oximeter. I don't know if I'm actually short if breath or just feel this way. All I know is I have constant pain and it's worse when I take a breath, especially a deep one.
Eating is really painful, as soon as the food reaches my chest it really, really hurts. Even drink hurts.
I'm 35, fairly healthy (don't smoke, drink, do drugs). Just been diagnosed with low folate, so do occasionally get light headed and ahortnof breath but never had these symptoms before, so attributing to Covid.

Please go and get checked.

I had the same a week after testing positive, it was pleurisy.

Give 111 a call x

Ex nurse here. Irrespective of whether you have covid or not if you've got chest pain and constant pressure on your chest and you can't take a proper deep breath you need to go to A&E as soon as possible.

Yep this.

Don’t write it off as covid, you can’t be sure that’s what it is. It needs checking as an emergency.

user1471509171 · 03/04/2022 00:18

I had burning chest and lungs and shortness of breath with Covid before the vaccine.

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 03/04/2022 11:41

Hope you're feeling better today @Tealember

Pippbean · 03/04/2022 12:41

How are you today OP?

Stormchaser1502 · 03/04/2022 15:49

I had this exact pain for the first 4-5 days (3 of those being prior to a pos lft).

I agree with the others though..if it’s concerning you then deffo get it checked out

Tealember · 03/04/2022 21:48

Thank you all for the messages checking in. I managed to get my oxygen levels tested and they were fine, so just trying to ride it out.
I'm still poorly today, not manage to eat or drink in 2 days (just a few sips of water because it hurts so much).
Just feeling exhausted still but I'm sure I just need to give it time.

When I had that sort of chest pain it was pleurisy, and I needed strong antibiotics. I would speak to your gp. Hope you feel better soon 💐

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 03/04/2022 22:20

Glad your oxygen levels are OK but if you're no better tomorrow you really should get seen to make sure there's not a chest infection of some kind. You must be feeling really rotten, hope you're on the mend soon.

SawnWood · 03/04/2022 22:22

LFTs often take until day 4/5 of covid to test positive.
Phone 111 with your symptoms.

Tealember · 03/04/2022 23:47

Thanks all. For those of you who had he chest pain, did you struggle with eating and drinking?
I have constant pain (not severe) but eating is agony. I tried eating this evening and I was in tears. As soon as the good reaches my chest the pain gets bad. The same when I drink (but not quite as severe).

Tealember · 03/04/2022 23:55

I should add that my partner is a GP and listened to my chest and said it sounded ok..I know it seems weird posting on here when he's a doctor but he says my symptoms aren't typical, so I wanted to know if others had experienced the same.
