Working from home with COVID - anyone else struggling?

I have COVID and physically I feel ok, I just have cough and blocked nose. But I'm really struggling with motivation and just fatigue. Today I did probably 2 hours of work, I just couldn't get going and motivate myself. I had to turn off my camera and mute myself in meetings as I kept having coughing fits.

A few colleagues are off with COVID but I feel like I feel physically well enough to work, but I'm still struggling.

Did you WFH with COVID or take time off?

I couldn’t work for the middle 6 of 10 days, and only a couple of hours on the days I managed. I think I’ve been marked as sick for all of them though.

CottonSock · 28/03/2022 18:55

Took 3 days off.

Nosetickle · 28/03/2022 18:55

I worked from home with covid with my perfectly well but positive testing children at home from school too, it was challenging to say the least! You sound more poorly than I was though.

CarryonCovid · 28/03/2022 18:56

I had Covid 10 days ago. My experience and that of my colleagues were days 1-3 we're the worst.

MysweetAudrina · 28/03/2022 18:59

I've taken today off. I get paid in full so not a consideration I need to take into account. I do feel shit though and would rather rest and recover than overdo it and prolong the experience. I am having some guilt pangs and I have checked and replied to a few emails but mostly resting ( and. Coughing and sniffling and sneezing)

Last time I felt dreadful and both kids had it which exhausted me even more so I took time off . I just feel more like I have cold symptoms this time so working from home but am lacking motivation .

LubaLuca · 28/03/2022 19:10

I had covid in January and worked at home, but with hindsight I really should have had at least a couple of days off sick. I struggled to focus for a few days, particularly in the afternoons when I would feel really tired.

Jules912 · 28/03/2022 19:15

I took a week off. Quite apart from anything else the brain fog was unreal, I couldn't figure out my son's maths never mind remember how to actually do my job! The second week I managed to work but was going to bed really early.

carefullycourageous · 28/03/2022 19:29

@covidemployee if you have fatigue, you are not physically well enough to work.

The worst thing you can do is push through fatigue, you are increasing your risk of slow recovery or longer lasting symptoms.

Take time off work.

covidemployee · 28/03/2022 19:36

I'm currently on day 4

I get paid sick days, but I'm worried about my attendance as we're only allowed four instances of absences in 12 months before it triggers a meeting with HR and I've had 3 lots of absences in the past 6 months.

What happens at the meeting, what is your company like and were your previous absences legitimate?

Organisations are going to have to deal with more absences, my work is being reasonable about COVID - do you think the meeting would be hostile?

StarCat2020 · 28/03/2022 19:53

So even if you get paid, you could be punished for Covid absence?

Fucking disgusting

SilverGlitterBaubles · 28/03/2022 20:10

I carried on WFH but in hindsight I should have taken a few days and rested up and then my recovery would have been quicker. Instead the fatigue went on for weeks. So my advice is to take a few days to get better it will pay dividends in the long run.

Frosty1000 · 28/03/2022 22:27

I had a week off, I get paid sick leave but it doesn't count towards absence policy and there was no way I could have worked. I had my 6 year old very poorly here as well.

I was still dodgy when I logged on again the following week but I wasn't ill enough to get signed off but not well enough to do as full day if you know what I mean. I was in a massive foggy tiredness situation.

Glad I took the time off though.

There’s now a really nasty presenteeism vibe at work with covid sickness, or any illness to be honest. It’s now frowned upon to have any time off now we can all wfh. It’s shit, and leads to everyone feeling constantly ill, low productivity and doing the bare minimum and logging off early. But hey, 100% attendance on the scorecard.

emmathedilemma · 29/03/2022 08:24

yeah and it's not really because I'm ill, i'm just bored of my own company and unmotivated due to being stuck in the same 4 walls! It's like lockdown again but worse because I'm not allowed out for my daily exercise!

This is so true, the flip side of the benefits of WFH is that it is now pretty much expected that you carry on working even when you are ill.
