My children are entitled to the Covid vaccination & they are in the 5-11 year old category.
Has anyone taken their child & were they ok?

11yr old DD2 had her's after school on Friday. She had a slightly sore arm until yesterday but has otherwise been fine. Her friend who also had her's just before had similar with no other side effects.

I took my 5 year old. It was fab, they put out fruit. Biscuits and drinks for them on a big table and let them chose some,
He had his injection, and was fine, was a bit sniffly for 2 days but no other symptoms!
(Also give them a medal & certificate for having it)

Are they vulnerable? Did you get a letter from gp? There is a big covid outbreak in our child's school. I really want them to be vaccinated but all I read is that it will open in April for all 5+ age group.

Mines not vulnerable, no. Our local health board put out a "register your interest" for the vaccination on Twitter which we could sign up to, then I had a phonecall a week later to get him booked in. But 2 weeks ago we had notification on the school parents app with the same link of how to register our child for it.

@Bizzarely I'm my area of scotland all our 5-11 got their letters in the last few weeks with appointments. I've read uptake isn't high.

CountessOfSponheim · 30/03/2022 07:47

11yo DD had her first dose and just had a sore arm the first day. She's "at higher risk" which is why she got the appointment (she's not actually "vulnerable").

My husband is vulnerable & it makes them entitled through living with him.

I am still not sure how I feel at the thought of having my son done. He has had the virus and it was a cough for one night...

He has had all his jabs to date but I wasn't keen on having it myself, but did through scare mongering. I think it's as it's a new thing that hasn't been around for a while that makes me nervous...

I'm not surprised. Ds3 is 4 and has had Covid twice. The first time he had a temperature for one day, the second no symptoms at all.

Most kids in his class have had it more than once now and are similar. The chickenpox that went around recently caused far more serious illness in a few in his class and no one vaccinates for that.

I've been assuming I can't get mine done yet (even if I could figure out how) as they've both had Covid in the last 12 weeks.

Dd6 is vulnerable. Had her first jab about a month ago and no issues or side effects whatsoever. Not even a sore arm.

No, neither DD nor her friend are. We're in Wales if it makes a difference. Invites aren't being issued but details for booking if you want an appointment have been sent via school and social media. We were the only ones at the centre on Friday. Had DD been younger I may not have considered vaccination but she goes up to secondary school in September and wanted her to have at least some protection by then.
ForgedInFire · 30/03/2022 22:54

I got a text last week from my surgery inviting me to book children 5-11 for a vaccine. Essex, not vulnerable. I haven't taken it up as yet. We have had covid with no ill effects and like PP, recently went through a chickenpox outbreak which was more problematic. One child in my dds reception class was hospitalised for over a week. I have no objections to the covid vaccine but I do wish the chickenpox vaccine was freely available on the NHS.

Ds has his appointment on Saturday (we're in Scotland so they're sending them out for all 5-11 year old now). He'd actually already been sent a letter before because he's autistic so classed as higher risk but I don't think he's actually at any more risk than other kids his age so wanted to wait until they were doing all kids that age not just higher risk kids. Myself, DH and Dd (16) have all been jabbed but for some reason I'm in two minds about DS (10) having it.

DC6 got invite today (Scotland). The letter said DC should've be vaxed earlier due to having underlying health conditions (I'm not aware of her having any Hmm) but never mind, you can come along now and why not bring the siblings while you're at it (or words to that effect!). A few years ago, we had a referral to the pediatrician for review of some development concerns but nothing came of it. Surely it's a stretch to consider than an increased covid risk? Like you, I'm not sure about it all.
