GPs and DC birthday - Covid

CovidQuestionNew · 28/03/2022 13:48

Hello!
GPs got back from holiday yesterday, the same day a member of their holiday party (staying in same home) tested positive for COVID. They want to visit today, they have had negative lat flows so far (did second LF today).
We are going on holiday in 12 days time - destination doesn't require a test but does have a health survey.
It's DC's birthday. Other GPs missed birthday last year due to lockdown.
WWYD?
Thoughts gratefully received! Smile

I would politely, but assertively, say no. Explain (1) how much this holiday means to you, and (2) how contagious the new Omicron variant seems to be. Arrange zoom call for birthday messages, and promise meet up for when you get home from holidays.

Don't expect to 'talk them around' and get them to agree - be prepared to be made to feel a bit guilty. But I would stick to my guns on this one.

I agree with pp, don’t have them around but also don’t expect them to like it.
Getting covid and missing your own holiday for the sake of seeing them just isn’t worth it. Let them see DC virtually.

We were trying to be careful last month and DH still caught covid four days before we were going away, so for me the answer would definitely be 'no' if you really want to go away. I know covid is mild for many, but even if we could have gone, we'd have been too ill to enjoy it.

emmathedilemma · 28/03/2022 14:35

I wouldn't risk your holiday, this latest variant seems to be spreading like wildfire.

HSHorror · 28/03/2022 15:03

See them after your holiday.
We caught it and its ruined us seeing relatives over from Europe.

I wouldn't see them. I had similar kind of situation just before I was going abroad to see my elderly parents and I said no.

Thank you all!

I was feeling like we should say no but was feeling a bit under pressure!

I feel like they should give it a bit longer at least in case, especially with our holiday. I've been ill with about every toddler cold going over the pst few months so especially worried. I need a hol! Smile
