He's been so careful! He's also had four vaccines. Apparently he's able to get an antibody treatment but not sure who to contact. We are in Scotland.

Sorry all needy posts. Everything is shit at the moment

OP posts:
theotherfossilsister · 27/03/2022 11:50

Apparently he called the health board and was just told he's not eligible for the anitbody infusion.

I'm currently having chemo and caught COVID during my treatment, unfortunately it did lead to a delay in my treatment but not by much. I'd only had some of the vaccinations too, fortunately I was only laid up for 3 weeks and I've made a full recovery, best wishes to you FIL. :)

tulips27 · 27/03/2022 11:57

If he's not eligible that way he may be able to participate in a trial, I found one but there may be others. I don't think it guarantees treatment as you might be in the control group:

tulips27 · 27/03/2022 11:59

Also n.b. it's for antiviral drugs, not an infusion of antibodies.

theotherfossilsister · 27/03/2022 12:11

Thank you both. Sorry was typing so fast and got it wrong. I don't understand why they're saying he's not.l eligible as he got a letter saying he was.

Glad you're doing ok Paddington.

The trial says it's full.

My friend who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer tested positive on Wednesday, she is 70 and isn’t too bad, thank goodness, just a bad cough and feeling rough. My Dh 65 has a heart condition and got a text saying he may be eligible for anti virals. I rang the GP and told them he was struggling with symptoms first day, they made him an appointment at the medical assessment unit at our hospital. They checked him over and said everything was fine and because of vaccines he wouldn’t end up in hospital, but he wasn’t eligible for anti virals. The unit did ring him in a couple of days asking how he was, he was feeling a bit better by then. They did say only transplant patients were getting anti virals.

theotherfossilsister · 27/03/2022 12:31

Thank you @mindymomo

I know someone who had antivirals for psoriatic arthritis so it seems strange they should get it and not FIL. I'm not questioning their right to it as I know they're unwell, but his lack of right to it

My friends dad who is having chemo tested positive a few weeks ago, age 81. He was asymptomatic. He couldnt get the antivirals as they said he didnt have symptoms, but he got a vitamin infusion of some kind to give his immune system a boost. Anyway, he was absolutely fine.

StarCat2020 · 28/03/2022 04:30

Fucking terrible to make out that these meds are sao available and then ration them so much

theotherfossilsister · 28/03/2022 10:04

Thank you. Husband saw him through the window yesterday when dropping off shopping and he's already feeling rubbish. I have surgery myself tomorrow otherwise he'd go isolate with him.

I'm in Scotland too and have saved this link for info if any of my relatives get covid. Would you FIL not be eligible for Paxlovid or one of the infusions? I would have thought so.

theotherfossilsister · 29/03/2022 06:58

@imstilljenny2 I would have thought so yeah. I'm in hospital this morning having surgery so we can't even go and look after him, but forwarding link. Thank you xx

The trial I posted opens a quota for recruitment every day, it's just filling up very fast because cases are through the roof. Could he try again this morning? Also has he tried 111 to push for the antivirals?

hellcatspangle · 29/03/2022 09:10

My DF, similar age, got it in hospital while having chemo and he was fine, he had just a sore throat and mild cough for a few days.

Cornettoninja · 29/03/2022 09:15

I can’t help practically I’m afraid but just wanted to offer up another positive experience - my df is in end stage heart failure with multiple comorbidities. He’s had covid twice now, no antivirals, and didn’t believe he’d had it the first time and was only a bit iller the second time and sleeping more. It’s not necessarily going to be horrendous.

I hope your surgery goes well and your FIL gets through relatively unscathed Flowers

Cornettoninja · 29/03/2022 09:17

I forgot to say, if your husband is able I would consider dropping off some already made sandwiches or hot meals if he can. Covid is so draining I think that people on their own can end up weaker without nourishment because they haven’t got the energy to cook properly.

You’ve both clearly got a lot on your plates though so it’s understandable if neither of you can arrange that.

theotherfossilsister · 29/03/2022 16:54

Thank you @tulips27

Will try again tomorrow

Thank you @Cornettoninja . He has mil but she's not well either.

I am on my third day of paxlovid. Although all those mentioned above should qualify for it. The list of drugs that interract dangerously with it is huge. It is possible that they cannot come off some of these drugs and therefore can’t take it.
I was also offered the option of the infusion but would have had to go into the hospital to have it.

The process of getting it worked incredibly well. I am in London.
I also got a phone call from the trial but couldn’t chance being given a placebo.

theotherfossilsister · 02/04/2022 21:17

Thank you @lazymum99

Glad you got the drugs

He seems to be coming out of it ok now thankfully but still positive

Mindymomo · 03/04/2022 09:13

Good news that he’s getting better. My friend, despite recent chemotherapy has tested negative on days 5 and 6 which is a relief.

theotherfossilsister · 03/04/2022 10:42

That's brilliant @Mindymomo

It's so frightening when a cancer patient or someone with compromised immunity gets it

Im immunosuppressed and it's knocked me for six but I'm staring to pick up now after 2 weeks. It's sounds like he's made of tough stuff! If you can, get him having a juice and a good daily multivitamin plus lots and lots of rest and some sunshine if it appears.
