Covid one week before holiday

Help! We’re all positive and booked for a holiday abroad next Monday. What is the situation? I can’t seem to find a definitive answer.

Malteser71 · 27/03/2022 09:43

Where are you going? That’s the most important thing

Watapalava · 27/03/2022 09:53

Most countries won’t let you in theoretically if you’ve had covid 14 days before - that’s their rule not the uk rule of free if negative

However have you had a pcr? If not no one would know so I’d go freely even if positive still

Most ele are vaccinated and off mums at most are not testing and certainly wouldn’t test pre holiday

Therefore half the flight could have theory and wouldn’t know - given 1/8 have covid isn’t it now? Plus 1:4 don’t have symptoms so I wouldn’t be cancelling my trip for it in million years

Watapalava · 27/03/2022 09:54

off mumsnet

Watapalava · 27/03/2022 09:54

Honestly tho why the hell did you test knowing you’re going away?!

Watapalava · 27/03/2022 09:56

From Friday 1/4 uk removes the current advice to isolate with covid but this is not the case for other countries

Northernsoullover · 27/03/2022 09:56

Well that's really heartening to know whatapalaver that you would knowingly expose a plane load of people Hmm.

Does your insurance not cover this eventuality OP? Ignoring deliberately exposing people my fear would be taking a turn for the worse abroad.

Delatron · 27/03/2022 09:57

It depends whether you need to show a negative PCR or LFT before going? Many countries have dropped this requirement. Then how ill you are? So theoretically like other illnesses. Are you too ill to go and enjoy the holiday?

Agree, if tests aren’t needed to your destination then many on the flight could have asymptomatic Covid. Did you test because you all have symptoms?

Malteser71 · 27/03/2022 09:59

Northern soul lover

When are you going to stop testing/isolating?

Genuine question

DottyHarmer · 27/03/2022 10:42

Tested (LFTs) due to colds. It is Spain.

OP posts:
Bickles · 27/03/2022 11:07

DS is positive and we go a week on Saturday, also to Spain.
There’s no testing in either direction but I think the passenger locator form will ask you to declare that you haven’t tested positive recently. I can’t find out the number of days before but I think it’s 10 as that’s when the Covid recovery pass appears on the app.
We are also going to Spain.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 27/03/2022 11:21

If it's LFT just go. Most people I know have colds and testing negative on LFT but it's obvious it's Covid. LFTs aren't picking up most infections now

We go in 2 weeks. We aren't testing.

onelife22 · 27/03/2022 11:33

Are you vaccinated? If you are you won't need to test and children under 12 don't need test or vaccs

Delatron · 27/03/2022 12:12

I think people who are about to go on holiday and have a sniffle will not test.

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/03/2022 12:58

Well hopefully those traveling knowing they are positive won’t need hospital care when they arrive in another country.

I don’t think ‘most’ people are vaccinated, just because the UK are!!

RafaIstheKingofClay · 27/03/2022 13:10

@Delatron

I think people who are about to go on holiday and have a sniffle will not test.
Well if they've got a temperature above 37.5 or look visibly ill, they'll be tested at the airport and then quarantined if they have covid. Which seems like a massive waste of a holiday tbh.

Are Spain still doing random PCR tests on some passengers 48hrs after arrival?

Delatron · 27/03/2022 13:15

Yes obviously high temperature and visibly ill is different to a sniffle.

Pre Covid I wouldn’t have travelled with a fever.

Watapalava · 27/03/2022 13:48

Looked at the spth form it’s ok outside of 7 days of positive result

NdefH81 · 27/03/2022 14:31

Why did you test? When you tested did you think… if it’s positive, will we still go on holiday?

The only reason I wouldn’t go on holiday is if I actually felt I’ll enough to cancel

So no intention to test even if symptoms

NdefH81 · 27/03/2022 14:33

@Delatron

Yes obviously high temperature and visibly ill is different to a sniffle.

Pre Covid I wouldn’t have travelled with a fever.

Even if you hadn’t been on holiday for 3 years Multiple holidays cancelled in that time frame The family desperately excited, all anyone talking about

And if you had a fever you wouldn’t travel pre covid?

Delatron · 27/03/2022 14:47

I think Pre Covid if I felt ill and had a fever I’d not be keen to get on a plane. Depends on how ill you feel I guess.

But I think now, living with Covid (and after many postponed/cancelled holidays) very few people will be testing for cold symptoms.

At the moment I wouldn’t go on holiday if I felt seriously ill. As pre Covid.

NdefH81 · 27/03/2022 14:53

I won’t test again until legally requires to
If I feel shit
I won’t go on holiday

If I have the sniffles and a low grade fever, I’ll be on that plane without a second thought

NdefH81 · 27/03/2022 14:54

Essentially precisely same approach pre covid as to post!

amylou8 · 27/03/2022 14:59

If you don't need tests for the destination, and you fell well enough to go then enjoy your holiday.

BirdOnTheWire · 27/03/2022 15:09

Oh god. This is why I'm regretting booking a holiday in April. First they removed the mask rule on planes and then the requirement to isolate. It's no suprise there are people ruthless and selfish enough to go on a plane knowing they are covid positive. I am CEV and DH is elderly. Yes we will wear FFP3 masks but I'm still stressed about picking it up on the flight and ending up in a foreign hospital. I was hospitalised last year even after vaccine.
Malteser71 · 27/03/2022 15:57

People aren’t ruthless and selfish. They are following rules.

If rules are dropped, there are none to follow.

Getting on the plane is your own choice to make. The FFP3 masks are a good option. Calling people ruthless and selfish is uncalled for.
