How easy is Covid to catch??

DS had covid 3 weeks ago but he isolated in his room and we didn’t catch it.

I’ve just been to visit my mum who was unwell when I arrived. She was coughing and very tired so I did an LFT. I had to do the throat part of it for her as she couldn’t see properly and she was sneezing as she did the nose - right in front of me.

Bloody thing was positive. I immediately put a mask on but I’d walked in to her house (all closed up, no ventilation). I was probably there 15 minutes unmasked and in the unventilated house and then a further 5-10 in the house with a mask on / door open.

What’s my chances?? 🦠😟

@Gwenhwyfar

"so assume we caught it from the same source I.e a door handle etc."

Unlikely because surface transmission has been proven to be small. Isn't it more likely you got it from sharing the same air for an extended period of time?

@Gwenhwyfar well yes but then where did one of us catch it to pass to the other?

I work in a place where it's very easy to come into contact with it, and I have never caught it. DP currently has it and we are living normally. He's on day 5 and I've still not got it.

Best friend caught it from a fleeting visit to her colleague; she was apparently in the house for 5 minutes. Like PPs have said, no rhyme nor reason. Confused

I didn't catch it when we had a positive case in the house and didn't bother with isolating the unclean one. I think I caught it weeks later when I nipped in the Co-op for a loaf of bread (it was the only place I'd been in the run up to testing positive).

I've worked on covid ward for 2 years and have been exposed countless times accidentally and have never had it. But I think I've just been lucky. Nearly all of my colleagues and a lot of my friends have had it.

"@Gwenhwyfar well yes but then where did one of us catch it to pass to the other?"

From another person obviously (and probably not via a surface).

Husband and children positive recently. I fully expected to catch it do didn't even try to stay away. We hugged, ate together, shared a bed... and I never ever tested positive (or develop any symptoms) Confused

Well this evening I’ve developed a sore throat, headache and a ‘picky’ feeling at the back of the nose that usually signals a cold incoming. I have only a few lateral flows left so will hold out testing till tomorrow. Definitely feel that something is brewing though….

I was hugging a heartbroken ds
Break-ups hit you so hard at that age

Pootle40 · 28/03/2022 21:10

Everyone will get it.

Remmy123 · 28/03/2022 21:16

Well my husband has had it and I've been sharing a room with him etc I've not got it

My son has it right now and I am not expecting him to self isolate as that is just mean and I'm negative.. at the moment

Saltyoledog · 29/03/2022 07:51

I’ve tested positive this morning. Contact on Saturday and faint positive this morning.

Hoping so much I can avoid passing it on to the rest of the family or our NY trip is off 😞
