Ds has a snotty nose and tired but no tests

There are no tests available anywhere near me. I’ve ordered some online but they won’t get here for another couple of days.

Ds is fine, just a bit snotty and tired but (pre Covid) I wouldn’t have hesitated about sending him to school. Due to exdh having cancelled contact at short notice 3 times already this year I’ve had to cancel work (can no longer work from home) and I will almost certainly get a disciplinary if I don’t go on tomorrow.

Would you send your child to school in this scenario? I tested yesterday with my last test and was negative as I’d been feeling rough over the weekend. I have never managed to get a positive result on a lateral flow test though despite having had Covid twice already confirmed by PCR.

Yeh I’d send him to school, it’s a cold. If we kept ds off every time he had a cold he’d never be at school!

NewJersey · 21/03/2022 23:54

Feeling tired and cold symptoms was how ours started, we’ve all tested positive over the last few days after having symptoms for days before that and testing negative.

sleepwouldbenice · 22/03/2022 00:02

Can you ask around local social media to see if anyone can get yiu a test early am?

ColettesEarrings · 22/03/2022 06:11

Yep I'd send him. In another nine days you won't be able to get a test anyway - pcrs will only be available in hospitals so even with symptoms you won't get one in the community unless you pay for one from a pharmacy.

Does he get hay fever, mine has flared up badly this week, try him with some piriton or the like (if he has no contraindications) and see if that makes him feel any better.

Hangingtrousers · 22/03/2022 06:23

Send him to school.

amatsip · 22/03/2022 06:42

My 10 year old has congestion, lethargy and spiked a temp. Her lft is positive.

Ah so has mine. Why is it so bad this year? It's driving me batshit
HollowedOut · 22/03/2022 06:58

I hadn’t considered hay fever. I’ve got some spirit on so I’ll see if that makes a difference. I’ve asked the few people I know who live close enough for me to pick one up before schoo if they’ve got any tests but no replies as yet.

It's a bit odd @gamerchick because the forecasts haven't been showing high pollen but since Sunday I've had a very congested nose, scratchy dry eyes, itchy skin and dry cough. I know it's hayfever because Benadryl reduces the symptoms and my LFTs are negative but wasn't expecting the hayfever to be at this level for another couple of months. Now to start the annual experimenting with different anti histamines and times of the day to take them to get maximum relief and minimum drowsiness Grin

LethargeMarg · 22/03/2022 07:05

Check his temperature as well
I think if your kids are ill you know
Mine were pretty obvious first few days of covid and wouldn't have sent them in pre covid with how they were presenting and I knew I was ill when I had it

SpringIntoChaos · 22/03/2022 07:06

My hay fever kicked in MASSIVELY on Sunday 😨 (so badly that I posted about it on SM...and I never post anything on SM 🤣🤣)

It's the tree pollen for me...gets me every year 😰 I feel (and look!) like shit on a stick!!

Roll on October 🙌🏼
