When do you think it’s safe for me to mix with others if I continue to test negative? My daughter tested positive on the 13th after a little complain of a headache on the 12th and 13th, Me and my partner and our son booked in for a PCR on the 15th, our son tested positive and me and partner negative. I did lft on my son and all came back negative till the 18th so it’s likely that he will have to do the full 10day isolation as not likely be will have two negatives before that time. I also had another PCR on the 18th which came back negative and partner also negative, our daughter had her first negative today ( didn’t test her yesterday ) day 8 so if negative tomorrow also she will be free, I will be isolating till 25th with our son so if I continue to test negative do you think it’s safe for me to mix with others after his isolation period or should I book for another PCR as it’s clear theirs a big delay on showing positive on lft. I would of completed 14 days isolation when our son will be free.
( just too add no other symptoms with both kids other than daughters slight headache )

I think it’s likely me and partner will eventually catch it as our children are primary age so we are not able to distance ourselves.

I think you should stop taking PCR tests. You don't need to isolate each day if you get a negative LFT on that day. Dh had covid and the other 3 in the family didn't get it. I still shared the bed and living spaces with him and didn't catch it.

Stop taking PCRs when you have no symptoms, and you don't need to isolate, if you are taking a LFT and its negative you can carry on as normal

Take a lft on days you need to go out, if it's clear go. My dp had symptoms on Tuesday, tested positive on lft Thursday and I'm still negative

How are you getting so many PCR's without symptoms? My understanding PCR's are to confirm a LFT, once you have symtoms?
Iggly · 21/03/2022 07:42

You can get PCRs as a close contact I think?

Either way, just take LFTs every other day (I would say every day but this government is insisting we ignore covid and is taking testing away, so better to save them).

dementedpixie · 21/03/2022 07:43

You dont need a PCR to confirm a positive LFT
You should take a PCR if you have symptoms and have a negative LFT or have done no LFT.

if you don't have symptoms and have a negative LFT then you can go about as normal if you are a contact of a positive case.

HelloNeighbour2021 · 21/03/2022 09:01

I have no problem going for a PCR as I’m eligible as I’m a close contact, also my son tested positive 5days before it showed up on lft so I want to detect it early as possible before I spread it to others.

I am eligible for a pcr as I’m close contact, and no you don’t need a pcr anymore to confirm after testing positive on a lft.

In England you are not eligible for a PCR as a close contact just becuase you live with someone who has tested positive - that changed in December. You need symptoms to be eligible (and it's supposed to be the classic 3 high temp, cough or loss of taste) for PCR nowadays.

You don't need to isolate, and only recommended to do LFT if meeting with high risk individuals. Unless you get symptoms.

It's quite a mind-shift from previous times.

In Scotland you don't need a PCR as a contact either. I tested positive last week, so did DH.

The kids are doing lateral flows each day before going to school. I'm out of isolation today, DH is out on Wednesday, assuming he tests negative by then too.

Stop taking PCR tests. Pointless.

You do not have to isolate as a close contact either. Just take LFT.

Braveheart35 · 21/03/2022 10:10

There is no eligibility to book a PCR as a close contact. And certainly no eligibility for repeat PCR's 'just to check'.

dementedpixie · 21/03/2022 11:47

You dont need to keep doing PCR tests. You've already had 2 so no need for any more unless you get symptoms.
