How will we know if our kids have it from April?

Cases rising in kids school again. Been told to pcr test if any symptoms. But what about form April when pcr testing is ending? Only 11 whole days away?!

I know we still have access to lft's - that you will have to pay for. I have a couple boxes left but won't last forever. Many parents including myself cannot afford to buy multiple lft tests.

Also , lft's aren't always accurate right? So if your kid has symptoms and you get a negative lft doesn't mean that they don't actually have it, could be just too soon to tell? But as above many won't be able to afford to buy multiple lft's.

I mean if your kid is visibly ill with say a fever, bad cough or fatigue etc - keep them off until better. But what about when a child just has mild sniffles? But totally fine in themselves? Paying for an lft each time?!

Thankfully mine aren't ill that often so hopefully won't affect us. But Dd has all year round allergies, usually mild and kept under confirm with antihistamines but if it gets bad for whatever reason she often develops a cough that I've had to test her for to get back to school as her cough has been bad. But I won't be able to afford an lft each time!!

She'd had covid twice and had minimal symptoms each time. Picked up as was testing due to close contact to covid, I wouldn't have known if I didn't test her.

Odd periods have been reported due to COVID. It’s not made up.

And not everyone has had COVID. We haven’t knowingly had it, and we have been regularly testing due to school and work.

@Teateaandmoretea

I had a GP appointment last week because I'm having odd bleeding and she asked if I'd had Covid (I had, I had it in January). She said I wasn't even the first person she'd seen that morning who'd had Covid and then period changes. It's a shitty thing, Covid, and it seems so foolish to just think it's fine to abandon absolutely all mitigations because for some it's 'just a cold'.

Most people have had covid surely? I had odd bleeding before covid existed it isn’t anything new. Some doctors really are not helping with these ridiculous theories.

She was saying she'd seen an increase in those reporting period changes after having Covid. Obviously anecdotal on my behalf, but I believe it's documented. So what's ridiculous about it? Would you like to explain a little more?

Are the majority of people in the UK wholly unvaccinated?

I completely accept that HCP working solely with children will see almost entirely unvaccinated individuals.

For those working with adults - or 12+ - is the MAJORITY wholly unvaccinated, ie not a single dose?

My understanding was that over 90% of 12+ have had 1 vaccination, 85%+ have had 2, and around 2/3 have had 3? It is hard to work out from those figures that the MAJORITY of those healthcare professionals see could be wholly unvaccinated?

Well I work with mainly unvaccinated people. All children in my school are under 12. There are 200 ish of them. There are 24 members of staff that I mix with (a couple of them are unvaccinated). So yes, the vast majority of my daily contacts are unvaccinated.

Why would you choose to spend money 'looking' for a virus that's not even affecting your child much Confused?

Perhaps because for the last 2 years we've beern taught to fear this virus, we've had lockdowns, face masks, testing, isolation and have been repeatedly told to protect the vulnerable. Now we're being told it's no problen if our kids go to school and spread it to others. What if another child catches it and spreads it to his gran who then dies? What if a vulnerable member of staff gets it? How do we get our heads around the fact that we no longer need to care if we spread Covid when it goes against everything we were told for 2 years? Yes it's better now because of vaccines but people are still being hospitalised and dying each day. I'm a healthy triple vaccinated woman in my 40s and was ill for 4 weeks with Omicron, then immediately got a 2 week chest infection and now have Covid again 2 months later. My life has been completely disrupted by it.

My DD and DH have covid atm. Everywhere is out of LTF tests at the moment. We do have some but will go through them rapidly.

I’m doing LTF tests every day. DD and DH can do LFT on day 5 and day 6 and if both negative they can go back to work/nursery. What about if they don’t test negative and need to keep testing on days 7/8/9/10 that’s potentially 12 LFT.

I can foresee a lot of people not bothering to test at all. DH only tested as he works in construction and was told he had test before being allowed on site and came up positive.

Does his employer enforce this rule?

ThatsGoingToHurt · 25/03/2022 17:24

He works for a subcontractor so yes the main contractor can set the rules for who they allow on site. How they would know I don’t know as they request proof they just request that they confirm they have tested negative
