Why do some people just not get it?

I've heard so many people not catch it from people in their house and the same seems to be happening in my house right now! My mum has Covid, we live with her, nobody else has caught it. The day before she tested we were on the car with windows shut for a good hour... I'm fine. I don't mean to sounds ungreatful, obviously I don't want to be unwell, but I just don't understand how some people just don't catch it?
Am I super human 🙈
Tbh a small part of me just wants it over with, the bigger part of me wants to be well obviously!

Also the day before she tested she was watching my 1 year old all day whilst I was at work, he's fine! He's obviously not jabbed!
It just baffles my mind!

It's weird. I've had it twice, DS had it once and DH had never had it. We all live together and all been double jabbed.
DH is not British and eats very differently to me and DS so we think it might be down to a healthier diet.

AuntieMarys · 20/03/2022 11:28

I haven't had it despite dh having it. We slept in same bed...were in cars together for a 3 hour journey and back.
No idea!

CremeEggThief · 20/03/2022 11:30

You could have had it and been asymptomatic, as could your DH, fairgame.

You're definitely not super-human or healthier than others. Grin

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 20/03/2022 11:36

Viruses can work that way. Some people don't get stomach bugs despite being in the same house as someone whose got one. I didn't catch Covid from my son when he had it and I was testing myself before I went out. No one else caught it either.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/03/2022 11:36

You don't know for sure that you've never had it, that's the thing. You could have had it unknowingly at any point and been asymptomatic.

cruelladepoppins · 20/03/2022 11:38

DS had it; I looked after him but didn't get it.
Five months later, I have it. Likeliest place was the choir. DH (who also goes to choir and has been looking after me, sharing a bed etc) doesn't have it.
We LFT twice a week.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/03/2022 11:39

I had it in August last year, presumably Delta. Caught from a work colleague. I haven't knowingly had Omicron despite it being apparently more contagious and being in close contact with a positive case on more than one occasion. Same with DS, he had Delta at the same time as me, hasn't knowingly had Omicron despite many of his classmates having it. I'm triple jabbed, DS at 8 is unvaccinated.

frenchiemummy92 · 20/03/2022 11:41

DP had it when it first started, we didn't isolate from each other, no jabs then & me & our two DDs didn't catch it.

Tuesday night DD1 tested positive. Friday morning I tested positive. DD2 and DP are still negative and I assumed if any one would catch it first it would be DD2 as both kids share everything.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/03/2022 11:43

Also a negative LFT doesn't mean you don't have Covid. Many many people get negative LFTs but positive PCRs.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/03/2022 11:48

I haven’t had it yet. DH and DDs all had it separately and no one else in her household caught despite no isolating and me doing all the cleaning. On two of the occasions they’ve had it I’ve had a PCR and was negative and on the other was doing daily lateral flows as a close contact. The rest of the time I have been doing 2x LFT a week due to work. Strangely no one on my side of the family has had it yet.

LizDoingTheCanCan · 20/03/2022 11:49

There are no firm answers as yet, but there is research ongoing into this. Those who have not had it play a key part in vaccine research, if we can effectively repel it, then replicating that in a vaccine would be a game changer.

BusyBeaMe · 20/03/2022 11:49

I thought the same OP, I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve been in real contact with it. DC too. DH had it over the summer, at the time we all had to isolate, but we didn’t get it.

However, it landed on Monday (from nursery) and it’s wiping us out, one at a time, just to prolong it all Confused

RebeccaCloud9 · 20/03/2022 11:51

Well now you've said you're superhuman, you'll get it within the week Grin

RebeccaCloud9 · 20/03/2022 11:53

Someone I work with was telling me a couple of weeks ago how she thought she must be immune as her and her family haven't had it. No surprise to say she got it the week after.

Another friend didn't catch it when her daughter had it despite car journeys and cuddles. A month later she caught it going out for a meal with someone who tested positive the next day.

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2022 11:53

I haven’t had any symptoms and a positive test yet

I’ve had another virus during that time

When you hear about people who’ve had it multiple times it seems a big difference

I haven’t changed my behaviour either (unless I had to) and just do normal stuff including not isolating from positive testing dc

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2022 11:55

@Waxonwaxoff0

You don't know for sure that you've never had it, that's the thing. You could have had it unknowingly at any point and been asymptomatic.
This is key though as the rate for asymptomatic is high 1 out of 3? iirc

And that was pre vaccine so maybe changed

ENoeuf · 20/03/2022 11:55

I wonder how you find out about trials? I’ve never had it, was in a car with ds after he tested positive pre vaccines for about three hours, shared a bed with dh every night through two infections. Never tested positive, despite regular work related testing.

Hahaha oh god yes I've probably jinxed myself!!!!

Isn't it just so strange! I've been doing LFT but all negative, even from different packs. We're all well in ourselves. My concern is that we will each slowly get it and the thought of dealing with work and school and the logistics of it all is causing me more stress then the thought of being poorly (single mum 😰😰😰).

I do wonder if it's something to do with your blood work etc, who knows!!!

Shinyandnew1 · 20/03/2022 12:04

I think it’s bizarre-everyone in my house has had it except me.

I also can’t believe I’ve had it unknowingly/asymptomatically as I’ve tested twice a week with LFD tests since that became a ‘thing’ we had to do through work. I also tested daily when someone in the household had it.

Bickles · 20/03/2022 12:07

DH is currently positive having avoided catching Alpha when DS and I had it.
My friend has had Covid in her house- DH and sons- 4 times now and is only just positive.
This variant seems to be getting lots of people who avoided before.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 20/03/2022 12:12

I don't think it's strange, do you all catch a cold if one person in the house has it or a stomach bug?

In my house that's normal, we don't all come down with a cold if one of us has one. Isn't that just the way with viruses?

Startuplife · 20/03/2022 12:17

My whole family caught it over Christmas. I suspect I had it for a good few days before I realised, during which time DP and I were staying in a hotel room together, in the car for hours etc. He never caught it.
And then a few weeks later he caught it from someone at work. He works in sport so would either have been outside or in a giant sports hall where he’s nowhere near anyone else.
So strange

Shergill15 · 20/03/2022 12:21

I currently have it for the first time, had all vaccinations. DD is 7 so unvaccinated and testing negative so far. No idea how it works to be honest and I'm surprised I've evaded it for this long
