Tested positive on Monday, had cold before that for a couple of days, but didn’t test.
No symptoms now, but still testing positive.
Is today day 5 or 6?

Backdating to onset of symptoms he's on day 7. He can go any time he's LFT negative 2 days in a row. By day 10 he's free as long as he has no raised temperature or D &V.
I've been studying this on govt website as I have Covid and I'm self employed. And I got official notification about isolating away from others, outdoor pastimes being OK.

If his symptoms before aren’t loss if taste, temp or cough then Monday is day 0 and which makes today day 5.

You’re not free on day 10, you’re free after day 10 assuming you haven’t had 2 consecutive negatives at least 24 hours apart before then.

So
0 - monday 14
1
2
3
4
5 - Saturday 19th, start using LFT
6
7
8
9
10
11 - Friday 25th, free

The Big 3 symptoms are so out of date. I refer to the Oxford University/Zoe research. It's just annoying. My loss of smell hail's back to my Covid in Sept/Oct, and is just a blip. It comes and goes.

Shouldbedoing · 19/03/2022 13:18

Yes sorry, free AFTER day 10.

My work says come back after 5 days if no symptoms, regardless of whether you test positive. Each employer will have different guidelines.

This is true but it’s not reflected in the government guidelines.
