I want to book a pcr but I have symptoms and no transport

What do I do.

I had a positive close contact last week.
I have some symptoms now.
I am testing negative on lfts.
My activities and mixing was limited over the past few weeks so flu is unlikely. I wasn't around anyone else with colds.

I want to book a pcr to rule covid in or out. My issue is that I live 12 miles away from the testing centre and I don't drive.

What do I do? I don't want to take public transport in case I cough and sneeze and put others at risk.

Will I just presume this is covid?

Postal PCR?

SummersBreeze · 18/03/2022 16:35

@LutherRalph1

Postal PCR?
Postal kit probably won't be posted til Monday. That doesn't really suit me.

I will keep testing on the antigen tests over the weekend and I will continue to isolate away from others so that I don't pass it on.

I went for a few PCRs last year and I was bold. I thought about my symptoms and contacts and deliberated over everything and at the time I had no known positive contacts and I thought I was low risk for having covid and I used public transport. At the time also I wasn't coughing so I wasn't expelling potentially infectious germs out of me onto others. If I was coughing I never would have gone on a bus.

Just carry on living your life as normal until you test positive, then follow the guidelines. Wear a mask if it makes you feel better.

@FairyCakeWings

Just carry on living your life as normal until you test positive, then follow the guidelines. Wear a mask if it makes you feel better.
That's pure nonsense and dangerous advice in my opinion.

I'm in this position because somebody else with symptoms decided to go about their life as normal even though a lot of her friends were all coming down with covid at the time. She had early symptoms and continued on as normal. I know that is the governments advice currently but I don't think it's right.

I do want to go to my local hotel for a meal and do so much. Especially this is my first weekend off since early February. I want to do so much.

I think there's a high probability that this will turn out to be covid. I will go back to living my life imwhen my symptoms clear. I don't want to put others at risk. It's no harm taking it easy for a few days. I'm sitting up in bed reading and enjoying the quite time in isolation.

Why won’t the postal test be posted til Monday? Is this a new thing? Whenever I’ve ordered one previously it has arrived the next day

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 18/03/2022 17:05

I've had postal PCRs posted on a Saturday before. Order one asap and hope you feel better soon.

irregularegular · 18/03/2022 17:10

Do you know the person who gave it to you well enough to ask her to drive you?

ThisTownAintBigEnoughForBoth · 18/03/2022 17:18

The tests are delivered daily. Go online and order one.

JemimaMuddledUp · 18/03/2022 17:18

Every time I have ordered a postal PCR it has been delivered the next day. The only problem with weekends is that there aren't collections from the priority postboxes on Sundays, but if your post arrives early enough that you can post it back tomorrow you should have the results on Sunday.
