Would you go on an English beach holiday when 2/4 of the family have covid?

If you would avoid indoors and go early morning to the beach?

Isn’t it a bit cold for an English beach holiday Shock

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 18/03/2022 08:35

My kids would happily swim in the sea in this temp!

As the beaches aren’t going to be packed in March term-time it’s not exactly an issue for the outdoor location - it’s more that you’ll be travelling your germs presumably through service stations and supermarkets to stock up and whatever accommodation you’re ending up in…

AuntieStella · 18/03/2022 08:35

I wouldn't - unless staying in own tourer caravan or tent.

And even then probably not - no guarantees about who's going to get ill next and what their illness will be like - can make people really quite poorly. And staying in for most of the time doesn't sound like much of a holiday tbh

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 18/03/2022 08:36

@NoSquirrels

It’s a 2 hours drive and we don’t need to stop, I’ve also not got covid so could do the shopping.

If SC then yes I would

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 18/03/2022 08:41

@Hoppinggreen

What’s SC?

OP posts:
PutinIsAWarCriminal · 18/03/2022 08:43

Sc = Self catering, and on a self catering basis then yes, why wouldn't you.

You quite likely will have it pretty soon though!

I really wouldn't. Having caught it 6 weeks ago, and still feeling really under the weather I would not be going out knowing I was positive. It really isn't just a mild cold for every one. I was triple jabbed and no underlying conditions.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 18/03/2022 08:49

@PutinIsAWarCriminal

It is self catering, it’s an air bnb flat.

@Seeline

I had it 13 weeks ago and then again 4 weeks ago so bloody hoping I don’t get it again!!!!

NoSquirrels · 18/03/2022 08:50

You sound quite determined to go, so I’m wondering why you’re wondering what others would do?

LizzieSiddal · 18/03/2022 08:51

Please tell the host so they are aware people with Covid have stayed there. Someone vulnerable may be staying there after you.

LizzieSiddal · 18/03/2022 08:53

And I have to say, it may not be the law to self isolate but I personally think if you have Covid you should, if at all possible, stay at home.

Sharrowgirl · 18/03/2022 08:54

MN is at the cautious end when it comes to Covid. I imagine most people in real life would tell you to go.

Bramshott · 18/03/2022 08:55

I think if the 2/4 who have it are on the tail end (eg. more than 5 days already since testing positive), and the other 2/4 are unlikely to get it because of having had it recently then I probably would these days. Especially if you're staying in the S/C place long enough that you'll be confident everyone will have been negative for several days before you leave.

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 18/03/2022 08:55

How long has your DP had it? (assuming that he's one of the two who has it now) Is he well? If he was well into it and not suffering too badly then I'd be relaxed and just pack a couple of days of ready meals, knowing that you could tag team if you get it while he's recovered.

If he's literally just come down with it then you're pretty likely to have it simultaneously and it's an unknown quantity how ill you'll be and it becomes much riskier.

Ditto if the DC have it at the moment and the adults are both due to come down with it.

Definitely don't go if you're a single parent of three DC.

TheFairyCaravan · 18/03/2022 08:56

No, I wouldn’t.

PineappleWilson · 18/03/2022 08:57

Yes if it's your own accommodation e.g. caravan, not if it's holiday accommodation as you'll potentially impact on cleaning staff etc. When DD got chicken pox on holiday we let the owner know in case it impacted on his cleaner, for example. He was fine about it but we still removed the bedding for DD's bed ourselves and wrapped it in another sheet.

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 18/03/2022 08:57

Just seen your update. If you had it four weeks ago so highly unlikely to catch it then yes I'd go.

CarlaH · 18/03/2022 09:14

Presumably when you had it 13 weeks ago you didn't expect to get it again 9 weeks later so having had it doesn't necessarily mean you won't get it again does it.

You've obviously already made up your mind.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 18/03/2022 09:26

@CarlaH

We haven’t as were meant to leave last night and we can’t decide what to do. We’ve packed and not left!!!

Sorry I was a bit terse horrible situation.

DarleneSnell · 18/03/2022 09:35

If we all felt well enough then yes definitely.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 18/03/2022 09:42

Just feel like we can never look forward to anything any more as it can always get cancelled! We missed this trip 4 weeks ago for half term as I had covid then then booked these 4 days instead of the week then… and now back to square one

OP posts:
HSHorror · 18/03/2022 10:30

I would go.
As you say with kids you will be catching frequently often through no fault.
Our school has several in dd class. Annoyingly the mum has another child who had it - i saw her in the kids classroom unmasked - we arent supposed to be popping into school!I
We had an issue last summer where dcs were both labelled by school as contacts despite dc1 not having been in. So dc1 and dp carried on to holiday. We werent eating inside and the aparment was booked for 2w anyway. The company also wouldnt let us move the one week to this year.
Even if companies still let you cancel and move the dates often you cant book as its fully booked
