Tested positive Sunday, would you send child to school tomorrow?

So DS tested positive Sunday eve... off school all week. No symptoms. His test was a very faint line (took ages to appear) on the positive yesterday & same today. If there's a negative tomorrow, should I send him in? He's 10, I have a very important work meeting I need to attend!
I'm in two minds. Before Sunday had not tested for 5 days so could be that he'd been positive for ages!!! I am negative. DH too.
What would you do?

What is the school policy? I probably would.

Piper22 · 17/03/2022 21:54

I wouldn’t. If he tested positive on Sunday (day 0) he’s only day 4 today. He’s still testing positive no matter how faint the line is. He could easily pass it on in a school environment to other children who will then have to take time off or potentially pass it on to vulnerable family members. It’d be morally wrong. There’s nothing legally requiring you to keep him home though

Wellbythebloodyhell · 17/03/2022 21:59

Our school is still insisting on following government guidelines which is 2 negative LFTS from day 5/6 or after 10 days whichever comes first.
I sympathise with your situation with work, its so difficult as employers expect you to make it to work but in reality who can you really ask to look after a covid positive child, its not the same as other illnesses where previously you potentially ask a family member to help out people are less inclined now to Want to help

pandapoppers · 17/03/2022 22:00

Thanks both
Only thinking of sending him in if test's negative tomorrow morning...
I'm planning to do two just to be sure.
So difficult

Sunday is Day 0. He needs negatives 2 days in a row from Day 5 on, so the soonest he could return would be Saturday.

Please don’t send him back until he’s had 2 consecutive negatives.

Abraxan · 17/03/2022 22:03

My school is asking all parents to follow government and LEA guidance. This means children should stay home until they've had two negative tests 24 hours apart, with the first one from day 5.

If he tested positive on Sunday (day 0) tomorrow is day 5. So at my school he wouldn't be expected back until next week (day 6 being Saturday.) I assume school know why he is off and when he tested positive, so you may risk them asking you to take him home.

millytint44 · 17/03/2022 22:05

Yes. You don't need to isolate now. It's just a cold. Give calpol, get on with it.

Is Sunday day 0? I thought it was day 1! Oh no, I tested positive on Sunday and I've been counting it wrong.

Sorry OP but I would keep him home, I think it's too soon.

Scottishgirl85 · 17/03/2022 22:23

We've all had covid recently and stopped isolating after 1 negative. I think that's good enough. In a few weeks nobody will be testing. Time for common sense.

Watapalava · 17/03/2022 22:29

Yes, both mine went in with covid. Next week it;ll be the norm as noone will know they even have covid. Don't be a martyr

gogohm · 17/03/2022 22:38

I would if he tests negative. Dp currently has covid and will be going back to work as soon as he tests negative

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 17/03/2022 22:45

My school is asking for kids to stay off for ten days unless two consecutive days negative after day 5 or 6. I am following the rules but feel aggrieved to be honest as my child will have been off school for seven days by the time they are allowed back and they and have been absolutely fine since about day 4. Everyone has COVID now. It’s like whack a mole and I can’t see how some children isolating, whereas presumably many still won’t, will help. Time to move on.

user1471443411 · 17/03/2022 22:47

I thought we weren't meant to be testing or isolating any more, unless really ill/vulnerable. I'd go with what your school says otherwise.

worriedatthistime · 17/03/2022 22:59

His day 5 is only tomorrow so has to be a negative tomorrow and saturday

worriedatthistime · 17/03/2022 23:01

@user1471443411 no guidance is still to isolate its just not legally enforceable

pandapoppers · 18/03/2022 12:54

He tested positive...
...stayed home
Relieved.

I mean, move on with your life if you so wish.
But being delusional doesn’t help anyone.
People are still losing their lives to it.

bottleoffanta · 18/03/2022 13:55

Why will people not be testing in a few weeks? Are free LF tests stopping? I haven’t seen anything about this?

bottleoffanta · 18/03/2022 13:57

Oh just googled it apparently 1st April how is that going to work with the guidelines Blush

Watapalava · 18/03/2022 20:45

The date when symptoms first start, of if asymptomatic the positive test, is day 0.
