Are you isolating? And how?

DH and I tested positive so we are isolating…after a fashion. We aren’t testing the baby and toddler - tried and failed so no nursery etc.

But we aren’t isolating like we would have last year. We are not going anywhere inside - no shops, groups etc but we are going for walks in the local area, to the beach whilst keeping away from people. I’ve avoided parks with the toddler. I passed a friend out walking with my toddler and baby (she was across the road) and she seemed shocked I was out. Given that it is no longer a legal requirement I had thought this wasn’t a big deal but am I totally reading the room wrong?

Depends on the room! You're going to get a mix of reactions here - people who are doing what they like because they're allowed now so fuck everyone else, and people incandescent that you're not locked in your house until the last possibility of infection is passed, and all points in between.

Personally, I think what you've described sounds reasonable.

DH and I are positive, haven't tested the kids but kept DS off preschool. We haven't been out of the house but that's purely because we felt terrible. I'm hoping we will feel better tomorrow to manage a short outing. We'll keep far away from people which I think it's fair.

It's tricky isn't it. I'm in the exact same situation as you, OP. Tested positive yesterday and going mad with cabin fever already! I definitely won't be going to shops/mixing with others, but I will be going out for a walk on my own tomorrow (across the open fields opposite my house). I just need some fresh air.
I will be keeping myself away from others for the next 5-10 days (LFT dependent), but won't be keeping myself locked up indoors 24/7 like I would have done 18 months ago.
Hope you feel better soon x

My kids currently have covid but feel fine so no pre school or school but we are going out and about, today we went for a bike ride then played football- crossed roads when needed to and didn’t go near anyone. Had to go to a shop
To left them in the car outside the shop for 5 min- I’m negative. There’s no way I’m keeping them
Home for 10 days

This is my 7th day of testing positive. I’m absolutely going for walks. I feel well enough to work and do light exercise. I won’t, however, go to crowded places or shops until I’m negative. Sounds like your approach is the same

bumpytrumpy · 17/03/2022 21:51

I'd be sending the kids to nursery if they will have them!

furballfun · 17/03/2022 22:00

DD was positive last week, and, like others here, I took her out for exercise. She didn't go indoors anywhere (other than our house) and missed all her activities as well as school. I'm pretty sure she benefitted at very little risk to others.

Incidentally, the very first covid rules allowed you (and your household) to leave the house for exercise, but not to go indoors; I know because DH had covid very early (at the beginning of the first lockdown) and DD and I made full use of that exemption! It was removed after a couple of weeks.

I think a walk outside away from other (potentially vulnerable) people is ok.

If you want to protect others but have a desperate need to go into a shop wear a (FFP2) mask.

I hope you feel better soon.

Smidgy · 17/03/2022 22:05

I've got covid and I haven't left the house yet, but mainly because I feel so terrible at the moment. However, if I feel up to it tomorrow then I will go for a trot around the block to get some fresh air. I don't think there is anything wrong with leaving your house with covid as long as you're steering clear of other people.

HamCob · 17/03/2022 22:10

Same as you OP.
I've isolated in the house mainly. Haven't been to work or done the school run, shopping etc but today is day 6 and I've been for a walk in a quiet park near where we live.

BigButtons · 17/03/2022 22:10

I have covid - tested Saturday- up until now I have been far too ill to move around the house let alone go for a walk. I might try and have short walk tomorrow. I live pretty rurally so easy for me to keep out of people’s way.
I tested positive today - day 6.

Pinkstar28 · 18/03/2022 12:32

We are going for walks to get some fresh air and to walk the dog. I popped to the shop when I was negative & left positive DS in the car. I wouldn’t now I’m positive as well. Not till I’m negative for two consecutive days.
