Covid, PCR for to fly and holiday

Heya,

Just looking for other people's experiences. After managing to avoid it me and my two kids have got Covid (tested strong positive today). We're all ok. Kids (6 &4) have slight fever and fatigue, in just a bit snotty and sneezy. I'm triple vaxxed as well.

We are due be going on our first abroad holiday in years in April. Because of the place we're going to, the eldest has to have a fit to fly PCR test which is due to be taken on the 7th April. The country we're going to doesn't accept the recovery certificates. I'm reading that the PCR can show positive for up to 90 days afterwards. We have travel insurance but we're staying in private accommodation/cash basis.

Just trying to work out if being able to go is going to be an absolute pipe dream or are we likely to end up having to cancel?

Realise this is obviously total 1st world problem and we are very fortunate but we've been looking forward to it for so long and I just want to be able to manage the kids (and I guess our own!) expectations. Thanks

Hopefully the PCR will be negative by then. I belong to quite a few travel facebook groups and I’ve not seen anyone testing positive on a PCR when they are negative on LFT, so keep doing them and hope for the best.

Thank you! That's really reassuring to hear. Smile

They can show positive for up to 90 days but for most people it's less than 20. I'm too ill to do the maths but you might be alright.

My daughters friend had covid 10-12 days before she had to fly and to my surprise tested negative on a pcr fit to fit test so don’t think it’s all over as might hopefully be ok.

I had a REACT PCR on day 18 having been LFT negative at day 7 and then a spurious LFT positive on day 14. Not sure if that's any help!
