School run when I’m positive

I’ve recently tested positive and today starting to feel a bit more human. My DC are at school and although my mum has offered to collect them, she lives an hour away. What have other people done in this situation? Phone school and asked them to send them to me while I wait in the car maybe?

When I told the school I was positive they asked me not to drop off at all so personally I wouldn't tell them just avoid others and don't go inside.

DSGR · 16/03/2022 10:55

I’d just go and get them. There is no legal requirement for you to stay home. I presume you collect them outside and you’re not hugging people?

HermioneWeasley · 16/03/2022 10:56

You don’t have to isolate, just take them and not lick anyone

GeneLovesJezebel · 16/03/2022 10:57

Yep, at this stage I’d tell no one and carry on.

That might be struggle for me. How else should I greet people?!

How old are they? Can you just wait in the car for them? Or stand away from other parents if you need to go onto the playground

SpaceyCake · 16/03/2022 11:19

A mum in my school continued to do the school runs as usual despite having Covid because she didn't have anyone else to do it for her. She just wore a mask and stayed away from people. I thought that was pretty reasonable.

They're 4 and 8 and at different schools. Neither are allowed out without me going into the playgrounds and one of the schools isn't easily accessible by car so I'd need permission to access the staff/visitor car park. Thanks all for replying, I am going to keep distance and be very speedy.

Do you know anyone? I picked up a friend of DS and took him to where his mum was in the car therefore minimising it all. I was happy to do so - at least for one

and it could be the staff car park is an option for the other

Quartz2208 · 16/03/2022 12:18

But yes mask as well and SD

Jules912 · 16/03/2022 12:25

I got a friend to drop/collect mine one day ( it's a large primary and the playground gets very crowded!), she only lives a few doors down so was walking this way anyway but if not i'd've offered to wait in the car by the school. Saying that I now have awful dizziness so couldn't drive anyway.
The other days I've been taking her to the childminder but it's a lot easier to keep my distance.

Cupcakegirl13 · 16/03/2022 12:41

I’m doing the school run whilst positive , life goes on I have a cold and I’m not hugging anyone or hanging around for a chat ! We’ve got to get in with it whilst being as safe as we can .

TakeMe2Insanity · 16/03/2022 13:50

Wear a mask. Our school hand over outdoors. I’ve come to conclusion it’s the masked parents who have tested positive but they are acting within the law.

badamsgirl · 16/03/2022 14:55

Yup i have covid, but no-one else to do drop off and pick up so i just go and mask up and maintain distance on school property. Handover is outside so no worse than passing someone in the street really.

Postcovid · 16/03/2022 15:09

Yes, just go. Wear mask, don't stop and chat.

Lilaclavenders · 16/03/2022 15:15

Unless you were planning to hug and kiss everyone there, why on earth can you not collect your kids from school?

I presume most people have had a chance to be vaccinated by now..?

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 16/03/2022 15:31

Wow I can't believe all these responses.
Guidance is still to isolate even if not law. I would ask a friend / kids friend parent to walk them to the car and not go in...

WellThatsMeScrewed · 16/03/2022 15:40

I’m doing school run while positive. No other choice and within rules.

I’m staying well away from others with my scarf around my face.

WellThatsMeScrewed · 16/03/2022 15:41

@PlateSpinnerJuggler but if I ask someone else they then have to have close contact with my DC in the car? Surely this is a safer option - I’m outside not near anyone.

@WellThatsMeScrewed not ask them to bring kids home - just walk them to your car

Good point. It's great that the positive ones wear a mask to warn us negatives to stay back.

It's everywhere now and the people that wanted to be vaccinated have had the chance. CEV are CEV to many illnesses/colds/flu/ and not just covid so tend to be very cautious anyway.
