Positive parent/ sending child to school?

Hi all,
It's only a hypothetical question at the moment- I was exposed to covid yesterday for quite a prolonged period (have been voluntarily isolating since, until my lft's arrive tomorrow).
It's made me wonder, if they come back positive, am I supposed to still send the kids to school/nursery or keep them at home? I can't seem to find any guidance anywhere. Thanks in advance x x

Yes, if your children test negative you send them to school.

Every nursery has their own rules. Ours has relaxed a lot as of lately and it’s fine to send a child in with a positive parents. The positive parent can’t drop off/pick up. The child needs to be symptom free. My husband currently has covid ( day 8) and so far neither of our kids (or myself) have been positive .

Even you don’t have to legally isolate if you get it. It has been guidance for a long time now that negative household members do not need to isolate. Since about August 2021! When I had covid last year, school told me to drive my kid to school & a teacher met them out the car & walked them in!

School have no requirements but nursery simply ask you to inform them if you have a positive household member so they can monitor outbreaks. DD can still attend so long as no symptoms and/or a negative test.

DH tested positive, we immediately did a PCR test on DC2 (who had been unwell with what we thought was a cold, though we hadn't suspected covid before we realised DH had it) and the result came back negative overnight so we sent her to nursery the next day. DC1 no symptoms so sent to school. I've been doing drop offs and pick ups but if I couldn't do them I think DH would be ok to do them, wearing a mask and keeping his distance from everyone as much as possible.

I find it difficult to decide how much to test the DCs as it's so unpleasant for them, DC1 in particular absolutely hates it and screams blue murder.

We (both parents) have just tested positive on lateral flows and have a 4 year old who is testing negative and would normally be due in school tomorrow. I was going to call the school and see what they would prefer, there are so many parents queuing at drop off and pick up it would seem odd to be around people, even if Boris doesn't care any more. Will be interesting to see what they say

They can attend but you can also choose to keep them home. We're now in the 'personal responsibility' approach to Covid. It's been interesting seeing how people react differently. Covid hasn't changed - just the Government's approach to it. Hence why numbers are climbing again.

With daily negative LFTs DS's school are accepting them in. I wasn't sure about it, but he's dodged picking COVID up from us so far 🤞

Yep our school said the same today. I can have covid and still drop him off aslong as he is negative. Not sure if I will feel well enough to drop him off but would feel very weird to be out and about with covid after following the rules so carefully for so long

Annoyedandirritated · 14/03/2022 18:31

I’m positive and dropping mine off at school, wearing a mask. Feel a bit uncomfortable with it and like I’m getting dirty looks off everyone though

jotorious · 14/03/2022 19:15

I am not sure anyone would know at our school, certainly for the first day, but I bet it would feel like everyone did

Yamyam13 · 17/03/2022 07:01

I’m on day 7 of covid and DH been doing the school run until now as both he and DD been negative. DH just tested positive after feeling wrotten in the night. I’m on the mend so if DD still negative this morning I will take her to school. It’s a 5 minute walk and I will hang way back from the school gates (DD is 8 so I can watch her run in from afar) and stay away from others, masked.

cadburyegg · 17/03/2022 13:43

I'm positive and my kids have been at school/preschool all week. Been very fortunate that I've been able to call in favours so I haven't needed to do the school run myself.

jotorious · 17/03/2022 15:33

I just picked up my boy from school, kept my mask on and as much distance as I could from people. Still felt wrong but needs must

gogohm · 17/03/2022 15:36

Legally yes they can, whether it's appropriate for you will depend if you have someone to take and pick up and whether they have already had covid recently eg you have caught it from them!

bumpytrumpy · 18/03/2022 21:50

Plenty of parents wearing masks on the playground here. I think it's fair to assume they are the ones with covid at the moment!
