Just tested positive, eligible for antivirals - what happens next?

DD tested positive on Wednesday, DH this morning so it was just a matter of time really. I've registered my positive LFT and it said they'd gat back to me if I'm eligible for antivirals, which I already know I am.

If you've been in this situation, what happened next? How long did you have to wait for them to contact you? And what form did your treatment take - did you need to go into hospital for a drip or was it pills you took at home?

I'm panicking a little bit as I'm immunosuppressed (I'm on methotrexate for RA). I've been feeling a bit ropey for a few days, but today I feel breathless and fluey.

I had my fourth jab last Sunday - is it too soon for it to have had any effect re lessening symptoms?

Sorry for all the questions. Feeling a bit at sixes and sevens right now and just babbling really!

Thanks in advance Flowers

I heard from the nhs centre today. They assessed me and said I was past the time scale. So edging towards the end of the 5 days.
I told her I felt is turned a corner as felt slightly more energised today. However this evening my chest is quite tight and I’m more breathless.
Has anyone else has breathlessness and tightness? It’s worrying me 😞

@TypicaIMe

Still waiting and feeling really rough now. I wonder if it's normal to wait this long?
Did they ever send it out @TypicaIMe?

My health authority apparently won't! And the panoramic trial apparently has a backlog of 5000 people so it's looking unlikely they'll manage that in the 5 day window when they only work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday!

Can you tell how worried I am! Similar presentation to yourself.

Yes, I've been breathless and had back pain but where chest is since Thursday. My heart rate is erratic as are my sats. 😭

How do you feel now?

TypicaIMe · 15/03/2022 10:24

Nope, they're not sending them. They say the rules changed a couple of weeks ago and now people on my medication with my condition aren't eligible. The government website says I am, the various people I've spoken to since Saturday (111, clinicians, etc) say I am, but my consultant has said I'm not. Coincidentally one of DH's colleagues with the same condition as me but on far stronger immunosuppressants also tested positive over the weekend and he's been told he's no longer eligible, either. We both have letters to say we are, but apparently that information is out of date.

I'm feeling absolutely wretched this morning. Definitely my worst day yet. And really worried, too.

Ah I’m so sorry. That is indeed unnerving for you. It’s such a worry. I really hope you begin to feel better soon.
I had a good day yesterday but have woken up floored with exhaustion today!! This is the weirdest virus!!

My dd has now tested positive. She’s 13 and was on the shielding list due to a severe health issue. We are now waiting to hear from the anti viral line following a chat with her gp yesterday. And so it all begins again….

@hashbrownsandwich

There is an automatic system for dispatch but you have to have a PCR, NOT just register a lateral flow. I know this as I work in this field.
My husband didn't. He's just finished his course. Tested posted on LFT, no PCR.
TwoBlueFish · 15/03/2022 14:00

My son had the antibody infusion. He tested positive on a LFT then we did the priority PCR that we had at home. Got the results for that and the hospital phoned about 10-12 hours later. Doctor went through the different treatment options and he was booked in for the treatment for the next morning. We were at the hospital for 2 hours, 30 minutes prep, 30 minute infusion and 1 hour monitoring. No side effects and he recovered well.

TwoBlueFish This is good to hear. So glad your ds recovered well. Still waiting for the call….!!

My DH (on immunosuppressive meds and already told he's eligible) has just tested positive (PCR results back overnight, LFT registered 13/3) and we are going around in circles trying to work out how to get the antivirals as 111 etc not helpful. He also had the text re Panoramic trial on Sun but no call back until today and now has a further 24 hours for a nurse to call..I thought they needed to be given asap to be effective? All seems v disorganised where we are!

Ideally they’re given within 5 days of either symptoms starting or a positive test. We had the phone call from the hospital about 12 hours after we received the positive PCR result.
