Covid in kids

I’m so stressed!! The kids tested positive last mon and have been sort of ok, a few temps but nothing major and I was hoping they would be fit enough for nursery/school early next week. The 1yr old and 3 yr old seen to be getting progressively worse not better. 3 year old has temp and vomiting last night (fri). when is the peak? Both me and dad are now positive, I’m beyond exhausted, congested with a slight cough.
The local school has been closed due to the outbreak so think everyone around has it.
Any miracle cures out there? Does anyone know when this is likely end…
All the posts I’m seeing are for kids with little or no symptoms, that’s definitely not what we have 😭

It really varies in children but some have been really unwell. We had one child off for three weeks but most were poorly with cold/ flu symptoms and cough for about three days then got better within a week.
The vomiting and diarrhoea is very common too with Covid in children so you are not alone!

One of mine had temperatures for the full ten days. The other had headaches and an upset stomach, you just can’t call it.

The children at my infant school who have tested positive have mostly been symptomatic, hence why they tested.
Lots of heavy cold type symptoms, some upset tummies, washed out feeling. Re negative tests - it's a real mix with some getting their first negative on day 5 and others still being positive on day 10. Doesn't seem to be linked to their symptoms either.

Thanks for your replies, means a lot! I had been searching online and most of the stuff I was finding was little no/symptoms. I only tested them because there was an outbreak at the school and 2 older were instantly positive. We had a few mild temps tues/wed and I was feeling ok. Since then it seems to have got worse especially in the 2 younger ones. My boy hasn’t eaten properly all week and he’s lost a fair bit of weight and now with the vomiting I’m getting worried. The baby is snotty and grumpy today, my boy is just lying around crying. I thought we had got off lightly mid week but guess not!

DD was worst days 3-5, definitely more like flu than a cold. Took her a week to be better and even then she was tired for a few weeks after.
DS dodged catching it off her but now has it. Announced my vomiting everywhere on Wednesday, had a bit of a headache Thursday/Friday but seems to have taken a dip today as just wants to lie on the sofa.

If he's not eating at all it's probably worth calling the doctor

My DD tested positive on Thursday morning. She only had a slight sore throat but I tested because there are cases in her class.
Within hours she had high temperature, headache, body aches and no appetite. Oh and she says water tastes disgusting. Still the same today but temperature a bit less high.
So strange how differently it can effect people. Some of her classmates have runny noses and coughs.

This Tuesday my husband tested positive. His symptoms started on Sunday. I tested positive on Wednesday after my symptoms started on Tuesday. Our 2 year old has temperature since Tuesday evening. She had a high temperature (39.2) for 2 days. She was perfectly fine on Thursday. Her temperature is now on and off since Yesterday. We took her to ER on Wednesday as per GP advice and the doctor assured us she doesn’t have any chest infection. I am really worried as she has on and off high temperature. Could someone please tell how you dealt with that?

DS (10) tested positive Thursday after school asked me to collect him as he had a bad headache. Temp started Thursday evening, Friday seemed 'ok' but y'day said he had a sore head and then vomited loads. Slept for 3 hours, kept down some toast and calpol melts and then slept all night too. Today seems 'ok' again so we'll see how today goes. Gutting part of it is that he was due to go away with school for a week tomorrow which is now off and I'm so disappointed for him 😞

My 3yr old was ill, lost his voice, croup like cough, night sweats for a week. I felt like it was abnormal for a young child to be ill like that but seems more normal on here. If it's any reassurance he recovered well. I'm still knackered Smile

Zolla · 13/03/2022 22:38

My DD (4) has been completely asymptomatic.. it’s bizarre! Although she did have what we thought was croup about 10 days before she tested positive, so maybe actually that was covid 🤷🏼‍♀️ Negative lateral flow then though .. we only picked up covid because we went to A&E with an injury & they swabbed her!

Positive last Sunday, very positive LF on Wednesday, faint on Thursday & Friday and negative ever since.

@Dakmom - just keep up the calpol. Temperatures are nothing to worry about unless they are sky high. They are a sign the body is fighting the infection. Lots of rest, calpol, ice lolly’s etc. 😊

My 4 yr old was very tired and runny nose when tested positive....recovered...3 weeks later sick and diarrhoea. Im convinced it was connected as others in her nursery followed a similar pattern.

She also wasnt eating but is making up for it now weeks later!
Zolla · 13/03/2022 22:48

@Stars1979 - surely there was just a tummy bug going round nursery that they all picked up? We’ve just had a stomach bug go round DD1s class and there were kids coming down with it 3 weeks after the first reported case 🥴🥴

FusionChefGeoff · 13/03/2022 22:54

DS(9) was the poorliest I've ever seen him - but only for day 2 and 3. He's still testing positive Day 7 but is completely asymptomatic now and driving us all bonkers Grin

Stars1979 · 14/03/2022 00:34

Potentially but there were a number of children that tested positive for covid from nursery and most of them had the same sickness and diarrhoea 2 to 3 weeks after first symptom of covid......i didnt realise this was something that occurred. GP confirmed it is....google it...but potentially could have been another bug of course.
