I am due to go to London next weekend to see MamaMia and stay over, meal booked in lovely french restaurant and brasserie next day for brunch, this is a joint birthday present (i bought my sons fiance mamamia tickets for her birthday and my son paid for a hotel etc for my birthday treat) I havent got Covid but my DD who lives with me has just tested positive. I dont have any lateral flow tests at home and with the rule change not sure I am required to test without symptoms in this situation but I am aware that in 7 days time I may catch it and possibly without symptoms. My friend said people dont have to isolate anymore with it but it feels wrong not to at least test regardless of whether I have symptoms or not, before I go away. If in the event that I have no symptoms and feel fine but am positive, is it wrong for me to go away for the weekend. Just feels like I could potentially infect a lot of people over the weekend.

Also with that timeline if I caught it say in 2 days, would i be contagious by next weekend, I am probably asking the impossible but just wondering what the rules are and what people are actually doing.

My DD feels fine by the way, just tired but due to her colleagues at work all having it she did a test tonight and it was a clear positive. She is also meant to be going to London on Sunday for drinks..but said she wont go.

The rules are that you don’t have to do anything. You can go to lunch even if positive.

I believe the guidance is to do a test if you are a contact. And to not go if you are positive.

You don't have to do anything at all. So just go. Get on with life again now.

If you aren't feeling well come the time then stay at home, but otherwise just go for it and enjoy.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother testing, especially if symptom free.

Thanks for the replies. I spoke too soon about my daughter, she is now very poorly, swollen glands and pounding head, main symptom is exhaustion she has stayed in bed resting. Her boss has told her not to come in until she is negative (works in a nursery).

I disagree. I think it’s irresponsible to go without testing first to make sure your negative.

Try getting some LFTs... although there were none available to post when I looked earlier today.

The guidance is the same - it is just not enforceable by law.

I've just ordered some tests online.

Pre covid would you have even given it a second thought to postpone/change your plans with friends if a member of your family had a virus or any sort, especially if you felt normal within yourself?
